Trailside Bar & Grill in Rhineland
Bill in Houston from Houston on 04/23/2019 07:32 PM:
Has been renamed "The Corner". Hours are Mon-Sat 6A to about 8P, Sunday 7:30A-2P.

It's nice inside. Doesn't seem to be smoking inside. Food was good. Server was nice.

francesty from Detroit on 04/24/2019 06:55 AM:
That's good to know about The Corner. I passed by it last week but didn't stop in because when I looked it up on Google, it was still named as Trailside and that it was closed.

Very nice staff. We rolled in just before 2pm closing on Sunday afternoon, and the kind waitress let us stay and thaw out. She also made perfectly cooked (medium rare) burgers and fries for us. After over 40 miles on heavily loaded tour bikes, this was our first hot food. Thank you for such hospitality. Find this place on the east edge of town past the grain bins.

We stopped here for breakfast last week and enjoyed the huge pancakes and the friendly staff! Everything was really good and very affordable! If you like pancakes, you need to try these!

OCtandem from OC, CA on 06/19/2018 09:02 AM:
It's right by the east end of town when the trail crosses the road. We didn't see it at first, coming from the west. It's more of a family place than a bar and there are also ice cold gatorades, sodas, etc available in a case to go. We had pie but they offer basics for lunch. Very friendly place.

Biggest Pancakes - Ever!
Kerry Ames from Rome, WI on 05/31/2017 04:25 PM:
Imagine the biggest pancakes you've ever seen. Now multiply that by a factor of three. Still, not quite there. These were enormous! And my breakfast buddy ordered TWO! He didn't realize that the cook emphasized "pan" (size) over "cake" (material). My friend is 6'5" and he could only eat 1/3 of the portion given. And often, size will dominate the attention at the cost of diminished quality. Not here. Though huge, the pancakes were still very, very good (I was recruited- all of us were - to help trim the amount left behind). This is a great stop for a morning re-fuel but I suggest you'll be fine with just one pancake. Hope this doesn't affect the Trailside's bottom line by reducing the number of pancakes ordered. The local guests were friendly and inviting and thank you, Brenda, for the great tour of the Shrine; a trip highlight, and we will light a candle for you.

Just one question, I am old and maybe I missed it, but where is this place located? As I said I probably missed it!:)

Keystone9800 from Dallas on 06/01/2017 07:11 PM:
I agree with Joe, where is this pancake mecca? I will be riding the trail mid June and would like some large pancakes. Where is Trailside?

Kerry Ames from Rome, WI on 06/02/2017 08:20 AM:
Sorry, a "newbie" mistake: trying to add to a previous discussion but made a new line, instead. This is the Trailside in Rhineland. Another tip for biggest burger: The Mokane Bar and Grill in Mokane. Skip the thought of the chef salad. I don't think they have much of a call for it there. The hamburgers are enormous. Don't order a double. And you know what? They were really, really good.

Anonymous on 06/03/2017 08:11 AM:
Thanks Kerry. Looking forward to stopping at both places.

This is a great neighborhood place that is not dependent on Katy Trail traffic. I was the only biker among 12 people there for supper. The service was excellent as was the food. (This was my fourth year riding the KATY.) It is open Tues-Sat from 6:30am to 9:00pm daily and Sunday 6:30am to 2:00pm. I highly recommend the Trailside Bar and Grill.

Always been a good stop for me, too. It's a great local place!

This was a great place. Stopped in on Saturday late morning. Had a hamburger, coke and a bottle of water. Real hamburger!!!! Toasted bun!!! Oh baby it hit the spot!Locals had fun checking me out in my spandex and a kid asked me a question about my bike. The girl running the place is cute too. Bonus.

Good place to stop and rest
Allen from Kansas City, MO on 06/02/2014 12:40 PM:
We stopped here for a late lunch and enjoyed the A/C and FoodTV while eating very good pork tenderloin sandwiches. The bathroom was a nice respite as it had a fully locking door so I could clean up a bit using the sink and some towels. The locals were friendly and asked questions about the trail, and the owner brought us a full pitcher of ice cold water: very nice on a hot humid day. Get the German potato salad... was killer. The gentleman running the place said the owner's daughter has a culinary degree and came up with the recipe. The place is also a convenience store so we were able to stock up on Gatorade.

MidSouth from Rogersville on 06/02/2014 12:50 PM:
Would this place happen to have a name?

Pseudio on 06/03/2014 07:30 AM:
Was it in Sedalia? Give us a clue.

Stopped here last week for lunch. I believe it was the owner who took our order - he was very friendly and helpful. Menu was typical bar and grill with a few "home-style" type plates added in. Good prices, good food.

I too have had good food and good service here on multiple occasions. Have also stayed across the road at the Doll House B&B and been very satisfied there as well.

T Slape from Little Rock AR on 10/25/2011 11:21 AM:
Doll House B&B is great - that breakfast should hold you until dinnertime. Great hosts, unbeatable location.

We planned to stop here on our third day of riding, which was a Monday. They closed at 2pm. We had to ride four additional miles to a grocery store down on Highway 19. Be prepared if coming through on a Monday...I am not sure if they close early on every Monday, but it was quite disheartening to see the place closed when we pushed hard to get to Rhineland to eat...

justsayin from KC on 09/16/2011 06:41 AM:
Consider yourself lucky. Many places are closed on Mondays along the trail.

Remember, a lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Or a crisis or a problem etc. You're disheartened because you let yourself down.

Anon on 09/16/2011 09:00 PM:
Yeah. And their food is fairly good too. But this happens all the time even tho this cafe is good about being open. Don't be too disappointed. It's all part of this trail's experience.

The simplest/best overall plan is to carry your own emegency/energy food, and then tank-up at whatever is open when you passby there. :)

Ate here twice on our last ride. The food is above average and worth the money. The service was not the greatest.

Anonymous from Hermann on 08/29/2009 12:33 PM:
Angie puts out a good meal. It is a favorite local hangout. Closed at 2 pm on Sunday and closed on Monday. Otherwise dig in. I have eaten there more times than I can count. Sometimes the service is right on and sometimes it's a little slow. Kinda depends on the number of guests there at the time and what you order. If you are in a hurry let 'em know so they can maybe bump up the order. Chicken is great but takes a while. Holler cross the room for more tea, they won't mind.

jd from gkc on 08/29/2009 01:24 PM:
Their country-fried-chicken lunches are terrific, possibly the best in the region for the money. I liked their chili, too, as a snack or smaller meal. :)

Anonymous on 06/04/2011 10:21 PM:
Their sweet potato fries with honey butter were awesome! The service was good, but wasn't overly friendly. A nice little place!

Paul Toigo from Kansas City, MO on 08/29/2011 05:39 PM:
The big breakfast really hit the spot. Especially since we built our hunger riding 20 miles before breakfast.

Very nice establishment. Food was great, but the locals gave me a few odd looks...must have been my shoes. Good Food and nice selection!

My boyfriend and I were coming from Lake of the Ozarks home to Leadington, Mo and stopped to have a bite. He had the grilled ham and cheese and fries and I had fried chicken gizzards and tater tots. The food was so delicious that we got second orders of the same foods! The service was excellent and the prices very fair. Keep up the great work!

Bar and grill is located right off the trail. A friend and I ate lunch there on Thursday 10-16-2008. They offered a very good cheesburger. Thursday's are &1 hamburger days, so we ate cheap. They also have homemade pie. The coconut cream was very good.

They had cold beer and the Food Network goign when we arrived around 3 PM on a Friday. Funny thing, we ran into some of the same locals we'd shared lunch with in Portland. They apparently migrated over the course of the afternoon.

We stopped in for a late lunch last friday afternoon while riding the trail for the first time. What a treat as this friendly and clean establishment served up a great catfish sandwich and excellent chocolate pie. Our price for three large softdrinks, three specials and a slice of pie came to only $13!!!!!!!!!

Stop here.......... you will be glad you did.

This was a great lunch stop. They grilled a bunch of vegies for me. Plus they had homemade pies barely cooled from the oven. These people are wonderful...Friendliest we met on the entire trail.

This is a friendly place with great specials, delicious food, and reasonable prices. Prompt service. Very clean. So comfy that it was difficult to get back on the trail! Met some bikers (mid October) who said they had no restaurant for 26 miles going east from Rhineland. They had enjoyed the food so much at Trailside that they had returned the next day. There is a bar/restaurant at Portland (looked ok). Guess the bar at Treloar is not reliable on the hours?

Ray (webmaster) on 10/22/2004 04:54 PM:
Thanks for mentioning the Treloar Bar hours - I just called them to get their hours, and updated our listing for them. Seems they changed their hours since the last time I talked to them a few months ago.

Dan and Jamie A from St Louis, MO on 10/29/2004 08:23 AM:
By the time we got to the restaurant we were so hungry. There is not really any good place to eat until you get to Rhineland (between Tebbetts and Rhineland). We were really just expecting to find something, anything to eat but it turned out the food was really good. Between the two of us we had barbeque pork, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, WONDERFUL german potato salad and green beans. This was definitley a refreshing stop. You can even order sandwiches to go (which we did for the ride to Peers). PS on Sunday they close at 2:00pm.
