I will be riding the KT from east to west. I will be taking the Amtrak from Warrensburg to Kirkwood(?). What is the best way to get to Machens? I guess what I'm looking for is a cheap shuttle since I'll already be riding 30 miles from Clinton to get to Warrensburg Amtrak. Thanks.

You're going to be much safer riding from Clinton to Sedalia on the Katy, then catching the Amtrak in Sedalia. Take Amtrak to Kirkwood. There are several postings about directions from the Kirkwood station to St. Charles on this site. I would not bother with going out to Machens because it's kind of a mess right now with the high water, and it's in the middle of nowhere. Just my opinion.

I agree, don't bother with Machens. The trail was closed the day I rode (June) because of high water. Plus it is probably the uglist part of the KT.

I suggest riding from West to East. Most winds come out of the West and you are also going a little downhill.
