I'm looking at setting up this event with a bicycle ride in a single day in late June. However, if there is not an interest I probably will not proceed. So if anyone has the stamina and fitness to do it please respond. I'm looking at possibly 20 riders.

Jerry Whittle from Belleville Illinois on 3/9/2016 8:43:43 AM:
You might want to avoid June 20-24 as that's the DNR's Katy Trail Ride. There will be about 350 extra riders on the trail and in your way.

ArkyKenny on 3/9/2016 9:56:08 AM:
For me, the advantages of doing a group ride are in 1) Transportation, either to or from the ride without having to round up a support team, 2) Support and safety (including mid-ride bail out options, if needed), and 3)Fun factor. 2-3 Rest stops with scales (for weight checks to monitor for dehydration), and snacks mid-ride would be great too, but they are not as important.

If you can address those things, I'm in. And I will buy a $150 T-shirt commemorating the event too.

Organizer on 3/17/2016 4:41:04 AM:
MDNR has requested a group application with approval with my group a 501 ( c ) 3 or for profit. Daylight hours may be a non starter. I see now why all past rides were bandit rides.

Anonymous on 3/17/2016 9:43:06 AM:
When it probably can't be done in the daylight hours that the park is open, it is highly unlikely that MDNR would condone the event. Yet many here like to claim records for riding the Katy in a day.

It appears to be worth $150 for a T-shirt to ArkAngel.

I'm interested, but I need the attempt to be before Memorial Day this year.

Start 5:00am from the Clinton Trailhead.
Crew Stop 1. Sedailia Depot/Trailhead aprox. 7:05am
Crew Stop 2. Boonville Trailhead/Depot approx. 9:17am
Crew Stop 3. Hartsburg Trailhead approx. 11:30am
Crew Stop 4. Portland Trailhead approx. 1:45pm
Crew Stop 5. Marthasville Trailhead approx. 3:45pm
Crew Stop 6. St. Charles Trailhead between 6:15-7:00pm. Will need to be there by 7pm to break record.
Finish Machens Trailhead approx. 7:30-8pm
Is this doable? Darin's plan last year.

ArkyKenny on 3/21/2016 7:55:03 AM:
Are you wanting to do a ride? A race? A pace line? Other? IMO, those are different things.

I would be interested in a group ride, with support, and hopefully in finding a few riders my same speed that work together as a group to get it done a little easier: A Double Century and then some on chipped limestone group-ish kind of ride, that I would be willing to pay some $ for support and transportation so I don't have to get those things for myself. But my last century was 5 1/2 hours on pavement, so it is likely to take me every moment of daylight I can get to complete this.

If you are wanting to do a pace line as an attempt to establish a new record time, I'd suggest finding the Facebook page of a group out of Springfield(?) that was trying to do that very thing last summer. You may also consider getting a tandem with a good partner, and you might be able to do it in 12 hours.

Mike from Lenexa on 3/21/2016 8:56:56 AM:
I was thinking of doing the trail in a day. If you end up doing it, I could be up for it.

Organizer on 3/29/2016 6:42:51 PM:
So, so far we have ArkyKenny, Paul and Mike? Can you guys do it some time in late May? Possibly on a Fri. or Sat?

Paul Toigo from Kansas City MO on 3/30/2016 5:33:03 AM:
May 23-25 are the best days for me.

Organizer on 4/17/2016 5:51:32 AM:
May 19, 20 or 27 are the only dates I can do. Any takers?

Paul Toigo from Kansas City on 4/18/2016 4:02:22 AM:
I'm out. Life interferes again this year.

Organizer on 4/27/2016 5:26:08 PM:
I could do in late June too if Paul, Mike or Arky or anyone are interested.
Mike or Paul did you see Ben Bolin from KC in 2012 did it with a group of 5 on Jun 23 below post?
Let me know. I can contact the SAG people to help set it up.

Paul Toigo from Kansas City on 5/13/2016 7:30:17 AM:
Life has changed again. At the moment, I can do most any day in June. How about June 10?

Organizer on 5/16/2016 7:01:16 AM:
Paul it appears it's just you with any interest. Arky an Mike haven't responded.
Jun 17 or 18 is doable for me since I work. I'm not in shape for the entire distance but could help the last 40-50 miles if needed. I can contract a SAG bike shop if you need it. Let me know.

Mark Long from Lampe on 5/19/2016 6:54:45 PM:
If you guys haven't already completed the ride, me and another rider are planning on completing the ride in two days. We will leave Clinton on June 17th and ride to Jefferson City on Day 1. Jeff City to Machens on Day two...if you are interested, you are welcome to tag along (you can even lead if you want!)
