I thinking about the the Katy Trail Ride in June, 2016. Any advice on what the best equipment for camping would be? Air mattress? Tent? Is it very social, or do people tend to do there own thing in the evening? And what about the question for the third phase of civilization, "Where shall we have lunch?"

This is one of those questions that will have various responses and varying opinions. You are allowed 2 bags each weighing up to 50 pounds. I always take a tent of decent size for the comfort and an air mattress. For me the social aspect is one of the best parts of the ride. The staff is so friendly and helpful and that overflows into the riding community. Do not worry about lunch. You will always find plenty of options. The staff will educate us every day about options. Just go where you see other riders going. Word gets around about good food. The final 3 days you will probably be to camp before lunchtime. Food is never a problem on this ride.

I plan on doing that ride for the 5th year in a row. It is extremely well supported. There are two other options. One is using hotels. That gets expensive. The other is to use Padre's tent service. It's somewhat expensive (around $300 for a single tent) but worth it in my opinion. I've used it the last 2 years. It's very social and that's one of the best parts. Don't forget to sign up on March 1st. This ride has filled up on the first day a few times.

Bring ear plugs and bug spray. Shower trailer lines get long if you finish late each day. They also have hotels with shuttles too.

Dean, you can go to www.mostateparks.com and search Katy Trail ride and you can see the whole digital packet that everyone gets to see, before the ride. It has a lot or really good information about how to prepare for the ride as well as suggested things to pack. There's also a lot of pictures from previous rides.
I hope this helps?
