I have planned a trip from Rocheport going East to St. Charles and back to Rocheport. Leaving this Sunday Oct. 19th- and returning Wed. Oct. 22nd. I heard form another cyclist that bridge construction that was to begin on Wed. Oct. 22nd has already begun and there is a section from MM 89 to 96.9 closed with no detour. Does anyone have knowledge of this and knows a way around it?

MH from Fenton on 10/16/2014 3:44:28 AM:
I hope you heard wrong, we have a group starting in Sedalia on Saturday riding to St Charles. We are finishing up on Wed, Oct 22 and hoped to miss the bridges/construction.
How do they close the trail with no detour?

Anonoh on 10/16/2014 8:27:49 AM:
Theres a 10/9 detours posting that could provide help if you can ride on Rt. 94. Some think it is too dangerous for a short period.

Call the main office in Jefferson City and they will let you know if the bridge work east of Jefferson to Augusta has started early. We just finished the ride from Sedalia to St Charles 2 weeks ago and the 3 new bridges opened on schedule 22 Sep 2014 from Sedalia to Jefferson City..

SG heard wrong. We rode from mile marker 73 to mile marker 143 this weekend and there were no bridges closed along this section.

Anonoh on 10/20/2014 6:27:39 PM:
I inquired to Loss Bridge Winery to let me know if this bridge is being replaced. Paul did you see any construction tape or equipment set up for future bridge work from 89-96.9 MM?

Paul Toigo from Kansas City MO on 10/21/2014 7:14:03 AM:
Several bridges, not just those being replaced, had snow fencing to direct traffic to one side of the bridge or the other. For the record, the proprietor of Lost CREEK Winery was asking me about the bridge closures Friday 17OCT2014 because the first he had heard of it were from guests that day. I really don't know, but I got the sense that LCW would port those too scared to ride 4 miles on MO-94 if you buy a 4-pack of wine. Who knows, they might even chuck a pumpkin with their trebuchet (450# counterweight).

The bridge closure advisory has been posted on the DNR site since August 1st.

Anonoh on 10/22/2014 6:31:23 AM:
The DNR site shows 3 bridges with 2 with detours and bridge # 2 without a detour. This is the subject of the post.

If my business was that close to the Katy and may be affected by the Katy I would know about the bridge closure since it was posted back in August...

Anonoh on 10/23/2014 6:24:27 AM:
If the winery is smart, they post a sign on the trail to come up Gorge Road to the winery (from the west) and after a few drinks, they will transport you around the closure?

Ray (webmaster) on 10/23/2014 7:44:41 AM:
As of this morning, the DNR's website indicates that the two replacements WITH DETOURS are underway, but the closure WITHOUT A DETOUR starts on 11/3:

Three bridges will be replaced on the Katy Trail this fall, one at MM 105.7 near Rhineland, one at MM 93.5 near Gore and one at MM 77.4 just east of Marthasville. Construction for the bridges at MM 105.7 and 77.4 began Oct. 22; construction for the bridge at MM 93.5 will begin Nov. 3. Anticipated reopening of all three bridges is by Dec. 17. For the bridge replacements at Rhineland (MM 105.7) and Marthasville (MM 77.4), detours will be provided and signs posted directing trail users to the detours. Users will need to exercise caution and be alert to vehicles since a portion of the both detours follows road routes. Beginning Nov. 3, the trail will be closed from MM 96.9 (Case) to MM 89 (Bernheimer) as there is no detour option in that area. Signs and barriers will be erected warning trail users of the closure. Users should avoid this area and not go beyond the barriers.

This is what Christine from LCV sent me. "We are located at MM 93.8 and it appears that our part of the trail will be closed for bridge resurfacing between November 3 and December 17. I hope this won’t affect your plans to visit Lost Creek Vineyard."

On my ride from N. Jefferson to Hermann today and the first bridge to the wes has been removed but there is a detour. I spoke to the crew and they will be at the second bridge tomorrow morning and there is no detour scheduled. I'm going for it anyway as the hwy is pretty close to the trail and should get me around if the bridge is gone. Not sure about the third bridge. May have more to report tomorrow (Wednesday)
