Does anybody what it is like getting from the end of the Katy trail (Clinton) onto Kansas City for a flight home. I plan on stating in St. Louis and do not really want to backtrack and the closest airport would be Kansas City.

Just wondering if there is a trail or bike paths or would it be mostly highways, which I would like to avoid. What about getting into Kansas City itself? Bike Friendly? Appreciate any info.

Thanks

The current thinking by most people is to 1) take a shuttle from Clinton, or 2) ride back to Sedalia, then ride to KC. The train is also an option from Sedalia to KC.

By car, Clinton is an hour southeast of downtown KC (and there is not a good way to get to KC by bike), and the airport is 30 min north of KC. Unless you take a shuttle or a taxi, it will probably involve several modes of transportation.

If time is not a consideration, and if you wanted to ride your bike through some rural country, I would probably consider circumnavigating KC from Sedalia to the KC airport counterclockwise (although a big clockwise loop from Clinton into Kansas then back to the KC airport might be fun too)

thnks for the info. What is the ride from Sedalia to KC like? Are ther trails or would i mostly be on highways/roads?

Would getting through central KC to the airport be a nightmare?

thanks again

You'll be on highways/roads from Sedalia to KC. Be careful tangling with traffic in Lee's Summit/Greenwood and stay out of the 64130 zip code. The calmest crossing of the MO river will be on the Heart of America (MO-9) bridge, but some use the Fairfax (US-69) bridge.

It is noble to think about a bike ride to KCI, but in reality, it just can't be safely done. I just finished a 4 day KATY Trail ride, and I want you to do it,too. So in honor of Gary Irwin and all the riders he recently helped around the trail closure, I will pay it forward and pick you up in Clinton and take you to KCI. Due to the time and distance, I would ask for a reasonable fee. But I will help you out. Reply here if you want to put it together, and we can work out details thru email.

That is awesome, LUDWHFN!

ovsa, I will volunteer to be on "standby" to get you to the airport in the unlikely event that something goes wrong with the initial plans. Just let me know when you finalize your plans so that I can commit.
