A group of 5 are riding the whole trail from Clinton to St Charles in mid September . A few of us are cyclists and the others are getting their training in. Wanting to shuttle thurs night to Clinton . Then ride 3 days to st Charles . Can anyone suggest reasonably priced but decent hotels to stay in?

They're all reasonably priced. It's the Midwest, central Missouri. Not many 5 star accommodations along the trail.

For those that aren't yet cyclists, 3 days seems a little ambitious. At 70 miles or so per day, your first stop would be Boonville, several options there such as Casino, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn. Next night would be either Tebbetts, the hostel is the only choice there, or Bluffton where there is the Rendleman Home B&B.

I agree with MidSouth that 70 miles average is a LOT for newbies. Even 70 miles for a one-day ride would be a lot, so 3 days in a row could be bad news for them. Before I take newbies with me, they have to ride with me for two days straight for 50-60 miles each day (local area) to make sure they are up to it. A few can't even do 30 miles on pavement, so no way they would do 70 on the Katy.

One other question. By looking on Katy trail sight looks like there are 4 different shuttle services. Anyone of them better than the other to use?

Karen, take a look at the Home Page and go down to "Share a Shuttle Ride" There are several in September being offered by Katy Bike Rental out of Defiance.
