5 of us stayed in the Pilot Grove B&B. Delores was awesome, the place we clean, laundry facilities were great, indoor bike storage, an awesome breakfast - plenty of food for 5 men, and great conversation. I would recommend this B&B to anyone!

Pam from Independence on 09/16/2011 12:55 PM:
Delores is a gem. Wonderful place to stay also. Very homey!!

Delores was delightful and shared some good stories about when this was originally a parsonage (guy raised chickens in the dresser drawers upstairs!). Delicious breakfast and good company, and husband Virgil stopped by. Their lives are in transition away from working a 1,000-acre farm and, probably, the B&B. Hope someone buys it and keeps it a success.

I would like to echo what was already said. Dolores was a fabulous hostess! We spoke with her about 25 miles out from Pilot Grove when we realized it would dark when we arrived. She offered to come get us at any time if we needed her to and was waiting for us at the trailhead when we arrived in Pilot Grove. She makes a great breakfast and we enjoyed talking to her and her husband, Virgil.

This has to be the best deal on the trail. At the present time, the B&B is rented out. However, Dolores takes guests to their house just south of town.

She invited me to have dessert with her and her husband Virgil. I had an enjoyable evening just chatting about a variety of things with them. The house was immaculate and very comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic. Again, this has to be the best deal on the trail.

Dolores from Pilot Grove on 09/29/2010 01:08 AM:
Wade, I appreciate your kind comments. The Pilot Grove B&B at 211 Roe is again open as of September, 2009. The B&B was rented to a local lady remodeling her home.

Pam from Independence on 07/03/2011 04:53 PM:
Ours stay with Dolores was delightful. As we arrived, Dolores just happened to drive up before we had a chance to call her. She was coming by to make sure the house was cool enough. The lady is a blessing and a gem for her guest. She made sure we had everything we needed and her breakfast was more than enough. It was something you would get from grandma's house. She even offered to take us to a firework display that a family of Pilot Grove was having the night of our stay. What host would try to make their guest feel like they belong to the community? Dolores for sure. The house is comfortable but not a 4 star hotel. If you want that then peddle to Boonville. But for want we paid and what we received it was an excellent deal. We plan to stay there again next year. Also the locals are very friendly. We had several conversations with the locals at Deon's Bar and Grill. Small town life is amazing.

Thanks Delores! Stay here it's great

My wife and I rolled in at 9:15pm to Casey's. My trip planner did not list B&B because the plan was to camp the whole way. Well things just change don't they. Jack at Caseys called her and Delores came, escorted us to the house, discussed a breakfast menu, gave us a quick tour and a ride back to Caseys for Pizza. I felt at home and comfortable instantly. Wonderful doing business with you, "Hi Virgil" I guess we'll see you next time.

Thanks for everything,

Craig and Heather

I would not recommend staying here. I had a heck of a time getting the reservation in the first place, back and forth with phone calls and emails. I planned a head and reserved for our August trip in April. 3 weeks before our trip she calls and asked for my email address and proceeded with all the questions we had already discussed in email. She was so very confused. Then we show up, late, which I had warned her about - I rode the trail with my husband and 2 year old twins - and the place was empty. She didn't answer either phone number and the house was locked up! I even called her Realtor (the place is for sale) trying to get a hold of her. At that point it was after 7, I had two hungry toddlers and a hungry, disappointed husband. Finally her husband just happens to drive by (as we were preparing to ride another 11 miles to Boonville - after 64 already that day) and shows us where the key is hidden. Apparently this information was in an email ... but wait, she didn't have my email according to her phone call.

The bathroom is shared (just so you know) and it was HOT upstairs, most rooms are upstairs, even with window ACs. Breakfast was not enough. I had to eat a cliff bar at the trail head. The stairs are steep and carpeted as well. Dangerous!

I'd say skip it and arrange your trip to stay somewhere else. I'll never stay here again.

My husband and I, and our two boys, 7 and 8, cycled part of the Katy Trail (Jefferson City-

Sedalia) as a first family tour in June this year. It was a wonderful experience for all of us, and

this bed and breakfast was the best place we stayed the whole week. Dolores offered a lot of

nice touches like ice cream, cookies and lemonade there for us when we got to the place.

After riding in the heat all day with the boys, we were so pleased to find such a welcoming

B&B. We were able to do laundry here and just get some rest. And the boys enjoyed it too--

-she had games there for them to play. Breakfast was great and just what we needed to start

the day. This was a very kid-friendly place. I would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I rode the whole Katy Trail both direction in Aug/Sep 2009. We stayed with Deloris and Virgil on our way west to Clinton and again on our way back. You can't go wrong staying here. Great food, great accomodations and great company. They are truly good people who want to take care of you and help you have a good time. (I am a procrastinator. I waited nearly a year to write this, but I'm sure it is all still true here in Aug 2010.)

Pilot Grove B&B at 211 Roe Street is for sale.

Dolores & Virgil (the owners) now run the B&B from their home - about 2 miles from the Pilot Grove trailhead. We were ready to bike the two miles, but Dolores insisted on picking us up. We were grateful for the ride because the 2 miles had a VERY large hill (a challenge for the most experienced cyclist).

Dolores & Virgil are in the right business. They appreciate travelers and have some wonderful stories. We could have spent all night talking with them. We were invited to a hearty dinner, and breakfast was top notch. We were well fed!

Dolores told us that the one grocery store in town (next door to Deon's Bar & Grill) recently closed for good. Your best bet for grocery refill is in Boonville.

Jon and Andy from Des Moines on 08/27/2009 04:33 PM:
Our stop in Pilot Grove with Dolores and Virgil was the best of our ride. Dolores offers to pick you up in town since their house is off the trail. Take her up on the offer since the road to their house is hilly. We had a wonderful evening meal and more than a complete breakfast the next morning. They really enjoy hearing about where you're from and how your ride is going. We spent a full evening talking about the different riders that have stayed with them over the years. Definitely a must stop.

I enjoyed my stay at the house of Dolores and Vergil. After riding from Clinton however it was also necessary, and Dolores’s assistance was immeasurably beneficial. Dolores dutifully picked me at the trailhead exactly on time, which was quite late in the day. She then drove me to her private home, for that is where you sleep and receive your meal; their place in town is not available. I was able to cover 70 miles the next day, and I doubt it would have been possible without Dolores’s assistance in other matters and particularly the bed and breakfast.

Delores owns 2 bed and breakfasts but the one in town is now closed. Her other B&B is at her home which is very roomy and comfy.

She cooked dinner for us. Her husband Virgil took us on a tour of their 250 acres and 100 cattle. It was lovely visiting with Delores and Virgil they are nicest people.

They are a couple miles out of town on the main road they can pick you up from the trail head if you need them to.

On Oct 28 I inquired at the bank about the location of the B&B and Flower Shop and was told it was out of business.

Dolores Stegner from Pilot Grove Missouri on 02/14/2009 08:26 AM:
The Pilot Grove B&B is open for the 2009 season. Only the flower shop has been closed. I apologize for any misunderstanding about closing. There are 3 rooms available at $60.00/room/night. I would enjoy hearing from you.

Flower Shop B&B at Pilot Grove. We were there on 26 May 2008 with our two grandsons biking from Sedalia to St. Charles. A very nice place to stay. Virgil and Delores were fine hosts. We would stay there again.

I have been riding the KATY for seven years now and I always enjoy staying at the B&B. Delores has always made sure that you feel comfortable and always questions if you would like something special for the continental breakfast. Nice rooms, shelter for your bike, all around great atmosphere, and great price for your room.Plan ahead for your next trip and call and reserve a room. I know you will enjoy your stay!

I stayed here on my way through town on May 24th 07...this B&B is very nice and the owner is a wonderful person. This B&B is for sale but had no bearing on my stay. If there is anybody looking for an investment property or a business to buy this house is priced to SELL!!

We enjoyed this B&B very much. Hospitable owner, shelter for the bike, comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms, continental breakfast. We had no trouble booking a room at the last minute.
