Hi all, I wanted to share Bill's updated phone number:
573-289-7544

FYI he doesn't rent the caboose in the winter because it gets too cold. He was incredibly nice during our phone conversation.

Hello, I am trying to see if I can make a reservation at the Katyrest Caboose for Thanksgiving night. I have tried the numbers on this forum but also see the notes about Bill being hard to reach.

Bill, could you please call/text 301-980-2781 or email lpories@gmail.com?

Thanks in advance!

Cute place to stay with great amenities
Jennie from Omaha, NE on 10/22/2020 07:07 AM:
We stayed at the Katyrest Caboose on 10/15. What a cute little place. Full bed and twin bed, fridge/microwave. All the amenities you needed. Bill was a great host and let us use his guest bathroom in his house to shower. Even had some breakfast/snacks for us. Plus who doesn't want to stay in a caboose.

Bill is a great guy and his caboose is an awesome place to stay. It rained the night we were there and we were glad to be indoors. The caboose is well worth the cost for the shower alone!

He is hard to get ahold of. The number listed is his old number/phone so don’t bother trying it. He said he was going to post his new number soon. He had been taking a break from hosting while he built a new house next door and stayed in the caboose during construction.

There’s also the gazebo in the park next door, but there are no showers or laundry.

Also Dotties is now closed and a new place has opened in the same building. It has very restricted hours so unless you are riding through Wed-Sun for lunch or dinner; take your own food. It’s open for breakfast on Sun morning.

Brian Riecker from Norman,OK on 10/08/2018 09:21 AM:
Sorry, no breakfast on Sunday.

brokeneck from denver on 01/03/2019 10:25 AM:
Is the caboose still being rented? Planning a ridethis summer and this seems like a great option for lodging. Does anyone have good contact info for reservations?

Trying to confirm for July 1, but I cannot reach the Katyrest Caboose by telephone. If you see this Bill, could you confirm that Rook (Linda) and Ginnis are reserved for this Sunday, July 1 when we arrive in Hartsburg by bicycle (how else?)

Anonymous on 06/25/2012 02:33 PM:
By car

Doug from Bluffton on 06/25/2012 02:54 PM:
Not to mention on the river or on foot.

Anonymous on 06/25/2012 03:53 PM:
I think a few years back the train went through there too didn't it?

Cathy from Jefferson City on 06/25/2012 05:44 PM:
Oh for crying out loud!

But wait what about horseback?

Anonymous on 06/25/2012 06:04 PM:
I'd like to stay in Boonville next weekend. If a hotel manager see's this please make me a reservation and confirm which hotel it is for me here. Oh, I'd like to know the total cost including tax to. Thanks in advance for using this forum to make and confirm reservations. I can leave my Visa number here if it would be easier for you if I pay in advance.

Cathy from Jefferson City on 06/25/2012 07:29 PM:
That's not nice anon. Ginnisn and Linda, using this forum for this purpose is fine. There are a couple of people from Hartsburg that I know check this site. Hopefully one of them will pass your question on to whoever runs the Caboose. Enjoy your time on the Katy Trail, drink plenty of fluids, try to stay cool.

Bud Ditzfeld from Hartsburg on 06/26/2012 09:52 AM:
Ginnis: I just spoke to Bill, and he does indeed have reservations for you. Enjoy your trip. :)

Coop from Lees Summit, Mo on 06/26/2012 09:16 PM:
My wife and I just stayed at the Caboose and what a fun place it is. After a hot day on the trail, not only was the Caboose nice and clean but the airconditioning was on when we got there. Bill was great and very helpful to give us what we needed. The Caboose is not a B&B, but there is plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Looking forward to a future stay.

Bud Ditzfeld from Hartsburg on 06/27/2012 10:14 AM:
Just a correction to Micheal's post; our phone number at the Bistro is 573-657-1171. The 9782 number no longer works.

Ginnis from Rochester Hills, Michigan on 07/07/2012 10:29 PM:
Hartsburg was our favorite town along the trail. Thanks for confirming our reservation!!!! We LOVED the caboose and the bistro.

Kim from Austin, tx on 07/10/2012 12:44 PM:
Can the caboose sleep 4 adults comfortably? As a kid at heart, I would love to stay there, just having trouble reaching the owner.

Ginnis and Rook from Rochester Hills, Michigan on 07/11/2012 08:10 AM:
There are 2 double beds in the caboose. Very comfortable.

Ripson from Highland, IL on 07/29/2012 10:46 AM:
Do they have showers anywhere?

Anonymous from Ashland on 07/29/2012 12:10 PM:
Yes, they have showers in Hartsburg. We had a light shower this morning but we really need a good soaking rain.

Brian from Norman, OK on 08/11/2018 03:19 PM:

I've seen other comments like this from as recently as last year, but the situation remains: the number listed for Katyrest Caboose goes to a message that says it is not set up to take messages. I've tried it at different times in the day and evening with no luck. Does anyone know how to make a reservation there for lodging or camping (the Katy site indicates it offers both).

MidSouth from Rogersville, MO on 06/24/2015 06:55 PM:
Yes there is lodging and camping at the caboose. I think you just have to keep calling until he answers. Do not know any other way to get a hold of him.

bike44 from LA on 08/15/2015 05:05 PM:
What is the price to stay the night at the Caboose and do they have showers there.

MidSouth from Rogersville, MO on 08/15/2015 08:10 PM:
The last time I stayed there I think the price was about $60. Yes, there is a shower in the building next door.

Trying for a week to get hold of owner to set up a reservation in May. Does anyone know of another number to call since this number doesn't have a mailbox set up for messages?

MidSouth from Rogersville, MO on 02/07/2014 01:13 PM:
He is hard to get a hold of, I think the cell number is all he has. You might try calling Dotty's Cafe and see if she will take your number and get a message to him.

Pam O from Independence on 02/15/2014 11:17 AM:
I won't bother Dottie, it is his business to worry about not hers. If I don't reach him after two more tries I will go elsewhere.

Stayed at the caboose Thursday night, had a great time visiting Hartsbur. Bill is a wonderful host. Had dinner at the Hartsburg Grand, which was amazing, then had a fun evening with the locals at the Hitchin Post. Friday morning had breakfast at Dotty's. Thanks for a great trip, can't wait to visit again.

Randy Bristol from Denver on 09/27/2011 09:46 AM:
Hello,

Our family of five is riding the trail eastward and would like to stay in the caboose on Thursday, Sept 29. I have been trying the number listed 573.289.6782 but no one answers and the voicemail box is full. Does anyone know if the caboose is still in operation and if so, how to make a reservation? I think my kids wouldbreally enjoy sleeping in a caboose!

Hi there. We own the Katy Boxcar in Rocheport. I believe it's available for Thursday. Clinton, MO has the cabooses. Not sure why they won't answer. Our number is 573-698-2453 for the Katy Trail B&B. Good luck! ~Tawnee Dufur

We stayed at the Katyrest in late July and it was great! It was about 110 degrees outside and we arrived in late afternoon. The air conditioner was already running and it was beautiful and cool inside. Bill wasn't home, but left us a note and we soon found him in town while on our way to the Big Muddy for some great dinner. Bill was very helpful and took good care of us as we headed back out the next morning to brave the heat again. This was our favorite stop along the trail and we plan on returning soon!

I stayed at the caboose last Friday during a cycling trip and I was not disappointed. The accommodations were exactly what I needed, Bill was very friendly and Hartsburg is a great stop. I can't recommend it more.

This was a highlight of the trip. The caboose house was nice and comfortable. It has a DVD player so bring a disk or two to entertain yourself. Or go down to the big muddy tavern. Great wings and beer. Really good prices too. Tuesdays are taco nights as well. A must is dotties cafe for breakfast. Good stuff. All in all I would recommend the caboose house to everyone.

The "coolest" place we stayed on the trail. I rode the trail with my husband and 2 year old toddlers. We were all thrilled to be sleeping in a "train." The room was clean and comfortable, the deck was awesome for chatting with old friends, and Bill was a great host. I won't hesitate to stay here again on any trip to central MO. Thanks Bill!

June 22, 2010- On our journey to ride the entire Katy Trail from St. Charles to Clinton, the Katyrest Caboose was the most interesting stop. The converted caboose was really original and done up really cute. Accommodations were comfortable and clean and the price was right. We had a great breakfast at DOTTY’S Café across the street. Bill was very accommodating; we called when we were within 10 miles of the caboose and he cranked up the air conditioner so it was good and cold (I think it was about 100 degrees that day!). Bill also took care of freezing our water for us overnight and had it ready for us in the morning for continued journey. The Katyrest Caboose is worth the stop.
