Just what I was looking for. Directly off the trailhead, comfortable room, secure storage of my bike, and a terrific breakfast. Joey is an extremely accommodating and friendly host. Joey was kind enough to drive me to and from Hermann so I could do some site seeing and grab dinner.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Joey's on 6/22/23. I stayed at the Victorian on the hill (hope I got the name right) since the Birdhouses were occupied, but the hospitality and accommodations were great. It's such a pleasure to have such super hosts to welcome riders after a long day on the KT.

Wow!!!! Yet again Joey was absolutely amazing!!!!! She is the best hostess we have ever had on the trail! Her place is walking and of course biking distance from the trailhead and her hospitality is like coming home to your favorite aunt! In the morning she home cooks the most delicious breakfast!!!! We have stayed here many years in the past and will continue to stay with her as long as she has an open door!

Very nice lodgings. Our group stayed in three rooms.
Excellent breakfast. Very peaceful. Also worth noting that a full size grocery store is about one hundred yards away. Easy to stock up on supplies.

This place is a gem. We fell into it by luck this time, but next time we ride the Katy Trail we will plan our trip around staying here again. Joey is a delight. She and Drew combined to provide the best breakfast of our trip. Next time we’ll try to arrange for dinner also. The grocery store is nearby. The room is comfortable. The setting is exceptionally peaceful. But by far the best positives of Joey’s birdhouse are the people who run it. This is an exceptional bed and breakfast operated by exceptional people.

We stayed at Joey's Birdhouse on April 25, 2022 after biking from St. Charles. This is a wonderful place to stay and just a stone's throw away from the trailhead. The room was cozy, our bikes were stored safely in the garage, there were little snacks available upon arrival ... and the bed was extremely comfortable. We arrived early evening, too late to head into Hermann, so Joey drove us to Loutre Market nearby and waited while we ordered a pizza and picked up some Midnight Whistle beer made by the Tin Mill Brewery in Hermann. Breakfast the next morning was the best of the trip. Joey, Richard and Drew joined for coffee and delightful conversation. Places like this are what make the Katy much more than a nice rail trail. We will definitely stay here on our next Katy ride.

While staying at Joey's you could have her pound out a metal sculpture for you as she is a very talented craftsman. We have stayed with her several times, and it is always great.

Joey was a wonderful host. I called at the last minute to check the availability of rooms and Joey was able to provide us with a great room. Rich , her partner , took us to Herman for dinner. He also gave us a great tour of the town of Herman. Joey cooked us a great breakfast prior to leaving . A good clean B&B with wonderful hosts.

We stayed here May 7th. Joey has thought of all the needs that cyclists have. There were snacks on the table, French press coffee at the ready, comfortable bed, spacious room, and even a hanging drying rack for our rinsed out clothing. There were chairs and tables on the front porch, a bike rack and a safe place to store our bikes in a barn. Joey and Rick were most welcoming. The delicious breakfast made by Joey and served by Drew was a special treat. Joey’s Birdhouse is a peaceful, relaxing place to stay, and an easy ride to Hermann. I highly recommend a stay at Joey’s Birdhouse.

Stayed in Nov. 2021. Super reasonable price and right off the trail. Excellent for KATY TRAIL riders. Room was clean and cozy and hot breakfast was fresh and tasty. Town (McKitrrick) is a bit run down, but if you're staying here, you're either here to just relax in your room or go to Hermann anyway. I'd definitely stay again.

I was fortunate to have stayed at Joey’s Bird House in October 2021. If you are considering a ride on the Katy Trail, plan your trip so you can stay with Joey. Upon arrival, I was treated like a long lost relative that had finally come back home for a visit. The accommodations are very convenient and comfortable. One thing that stood out was how well everything was planned for someone traveling on a bike; like a garage for your bike, air pump to fill your tires, and snacks in your room. A ride into town for dinner was an unexpected treat that allowed for great conversation and a history of the area. The breakfast was world class and my only regret is that I didn’t accept the offer for an extra biscuit “to go”

Our stay at Joey's Birdhouse was refreshing. The location was ideal after a long day of riding on the Katy trail. It had rained during our ride and we were able to clean up our bike with a hose and rags that were provided. We were also able to do our laundry in the basement of the house next door. A small loaf of homemade bread was on the table for us as well as fruit and potato chips. The fridge was stocked with water juice and milk. There was the option of making coffee. The room was comfortable. We spent our evening looking through books that were on the shelves. Breakfast in the morning was wonderful, and Joey and Richard joined us for conversation. We would definitely stay there again. Only drawback was the rather large step to get into the tub/shower.

Joey never disappoints! We stayed next door to the birdhouse in the art studio and had the run of the house - bedroom, pull outs in the living room, kitchen, bath, and washer dryer in basement. Cold beer, water, juice in the fridge and chips and cookies were waiting for us. Breakfast of eggs, potatoes, homemade rolls with all the fixings was delicious in the morning. We were rejuvenated after our stay for our last day ride to St. Charles. Thanks Joey!

Joey was a delight to meet and made an outstanding breakfast. And Joey’s Birdhouse was relaxing, quiet and clean — just what we needed after a 75-mile ride. The cold beer, chips and plate of cookies upon our arrival were a welcoming touch. I would definitely stay here again.

Joey's Bird House is a convenient and affordable option which I highly recommend, especially for those who want to be within walking distance of the Katy Trail. Her B&B is a nice stop over for those riding through or for those who want a temporary place to ride either direction on the trail, east one day and west another day. Joey is always in the area and is very accommodating to the diets of her guests.

What a great place! We were a small group that had been cycling for 40 days, and this place was a balm to the soul for weary cyclists. Joey was a wonderful host, and we wanted for nothing. I have several dietary issues which make eating out challenging a lot of the time. However, Joey put together the first breakfast I had eaten on this trip that I hadn't made myself and that I knew was safe! The beds were comfortable, the decor charming, and overall the peacefulness of the Birdhouse made us want to stay longer. Thank you, Joey!

I stayed in the queen bed room while other friends stayed on the adjoining side on the evening of 9/19/20 near the end of a KC to STL bike trip. Joey was very accommodating to our group and went out of her way to tell us about the area and provided a lovely pre-prepared breakfast the following morning. Would highly recommend staying here as it is VERY close to the trail yet far enough off that you still have plenty of privacy.

Stayed at Joey's Bird House 6/19/2020 so we could have a fresh start doing an out and back on the Katy. Room was clean and as we sat in the rocking chairs outside our room after a long travel day, Joey made us feel right at home having a conversation from her porch right next door. Bird feeders brought in the hummingbirds which are fascinating birds and her puppy gave us some love. She had made our breakfast and everything was in the room fridge ready for us to heat up the next morning. Traveling and recreation during this virus ordeal has been challenging, but Joey's Bird House took a lot of stress out of picture.

Can't say enough great about Joey's Birdhouse! My daughter and I were biking from St. Charles to McKittrick on our first day's journey. Joey texted me to say the skies were ugly and wondering how we were. We were 10 miles out and stepped it up to beat the rain - which we didn't! Joey met us with a hose for our bikes and us as well as bike rags and WD-40! Our stuff was soaked so Joey put everything in the dryer. We had snacks for the night, a delicious garden fresh breakfast the next morning, and fruit to go for the trail. We appreciated everything so much - especially since there weren't many eating places open yet. Plan a stop in McKittrick no matter which way you are traveling!!

I stayed here in early July, 2018. About as close to heaven as you can get on the Katy. Tranquil accommodations, excellent tub for soaking off the miles, plenty of books for catching up on local history, and the food can not be beat. I have a restricted diet, and Joey made me some amazing breakfasts, and even encouraged me to pick some veggies from the garden. I had planned on staying just one night, but ended up staying two, and took a day trip to Hermann. Go out of your way to stay here for a night or two. Joey and the Bird House are jewels on the Katy.

Joey's Bird House was a very welcome and convenient place and a great find! The snacks in the room were good and well thought out. I didn't have the energy to go in to Herman but the grocery store near there has a good deli and a good place to get all the other trail food and drink. Joey is very friendly and accommodating and serves a good breakfast.

There are two great things about Joey's Birdhouse, the room and Joey. The room was very cozy and comfortable, and even came with some snacks. Joey was great and very accomadating, she offered a ride in to town and was knowledgeable of surrounding amenities. On top of that, the breakfast was excellent. Would definitely recommend Joey's Birdhouse.

Joey's Bird House was a great place to stay right off the trail in McKittrick. Joey had the cottage ready for us when we got there and checked in with us a short time later. A great breakfast was served in the morning. A suggestion is to stop at the Loutre Grocery Store just off the trail on Hwy 94 for any refreshments/food as they have a great deli for a sandwich. You could also venture into Herman across the river. McKittrick has no other food options that we saw.

We totally splurged on the stage room this summer for our Katy trip. We figured after a few days being cooped in a trailer, our two year old would appreciate a LOT of room to run around. It was amazing and totally worth it! We arrived early and Joey was accommodating. We loved the tub (our toddler also loved the tub), it felt like a spa. Joey left us snacks and cookies and our daughter loved the milk. The stage room is just so special and we had such an amazing time here. Joey told us that the blackberries in her garden were ripe and we could help ourselves and this made for the sweetest moments with our little one, I bet she ate 50 of them during our stay. Breakfast was also excellent and with good company. This was the stuff memories are made of.

We arrived (very) early. Joey allowed us to ditch our trailer and bags, we then bikes into Hermann. After a couple of hours we returned to a clean, quaint, cosy 'cottage' with cold beers in the fridge and cookies for afternoon coffee.
We were invited to a local potluck that evening; everyone was very friendly.
Joey cooked an excellent breakfast the following morning, served in the beautiful Mercantile building. This was one of the best nights accommodation and food during our Katy trip.

This was one of our best BnB experiences. Joey knows how to do it. We started and ended our 4 day Katy Ride here. Stayed here the first night and had a wonderful breakfast with items right from Joey's garden and local farms. We rode out and back eastward on the trail the next day, then caught the evening Amtrak train across the river in Hermann west to Sedalia. After another three days on the trail heading back, we returned here for our final night. Joey made it the best experience. Most comfortable mattress and best food on the entire trip!

A friend and I stayed at Joey's Birdhouse in Mid May of this year. We found a clean room and a hospitable host. A stay @ Joey's Bird House is a must if it will fit into you planning schedule at all. Believe me it is worth the extra miles on either side of the trip. All she has advertised is true and other positive comments ring true as well. We got into a cool room where we found snacks, milk, orange juice, snickers, and 2 light beers for those who imbibe. There was plenty of teas to choose from and a French press for coffee just the way you like it. The breakfast was 2nd to none even if there was no bacon... Everything was garden fresh or prepared from her garden. Speaking of garden she offered her garden for our enjoyment as well. Had some strawberries. I can't say enough about Joey's hospitality. BTW: she even provided supplies for cleaning up your bike.

Wow! This was our 4th night on the trail. The weather was colder than we'd hoped and the day was long (traveling with two kiddos definitely kept us at a slow pace, it wasn't that the trail itself was that rough). We were floored at Joey's!! The hospitality was excellent, the rooms were sooooooo much fun! We especially loved the old theatre remodeled into a room! Beds were warm and comfortable. Breakfast then next morning was nutritious, absolutely delicious, and local (lots came right out of the garden). We even asked her for a recipe!! I can't recommend this place highly enough!!! We will definitely be back!

5/31/2016 - Great place to stay while doing the Katy Trail! Joey is terrific, the room was clean, and breakfast great. The cold beers in the frig helped especially after a tough day that included a flat tire. There are no restaurants in McKittrick but with advance notice, Joey will cook dinner. I will be back.

We cannot say enough good things about Joey's Birdhouse B&B. Our room was clean and nicely decorated, there was craft beer and fresh orange juice in the fridge, and fresh fruit on the table. It is located right off the trail, so after a 60 mile ride it was nice not to have to pedal even further to reach our destination. Joey is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, and the breakfast she made us was fantastic. Her friend Rich is also very nice, and a great conversationalist. He grew up in the area and is a wealth of knowledge. All future trips we plan along the Katy Trail will include an overnight stay at Joey's Birdhouse.

Just around the corner from the trail head, quiet, cozy, comfortable. It was getting late, Joey was kind enough to pick us from Portland. I had the privilege of staying at the Birdhouse after one of the longest wettest days I have ever experienced on the Katy. The room was perfect for a couple of rain soaked riders! Clean and cool with a hot shower and plenty of snacks. Joey couldn't be there but she checked us in over the phone and made sure we had everything we needed. She let us store our bikes in her basement to get them out of the rain and offered rags and chain lube. This is the perfect place for riders who are looking for a comfy room after a day on the trail.

Joey’s Bird House was perfect after a rainy day on the Katy Trail. The room was close to the trail, quiet, comfortable, and very clean. There was a well-stocked frig in addition to Joey cooking us a wonderful breakfast (she would have cooked our dinner if the rain had not delayed us on the trail). There are two rooms right beside each other which made it perfect since we were biking with our daughter and her family. Joey even washed and dried the muddy bike clothing. This is definitely one of the best values on the trail, worth returning to each year.

The only thing we would have changed is the Cardinals did not win that night:(. We will definitely be back!

Great place to stay---right off of the trail. Joey was a great host and went above and beyond. Even offered us laundry facilities as it was raining the whole week.

The Best B&B we have stayed in this far. We have been traveling from Sedalia to McKittrick and lodged in two different places. This has been the best. The hospitality here was AMAZING!!! I would totally stay here again even if not biking the Trail. This place is a must. She has a room that would be good for really larger groups too if you didn't mind sleeping on the floor. But if it's a small group there was a comfortable bed and a hot breakfast and lovely company!!! Thanks so much!!

A must for any multi day Katy Trail trip. Our favorite accommodation on the trail by far! Fridge was fully stocked. Farm fresh eggs and a beautiful garden for the picking. Joey was a sweetheart offering anything we needed. Beautifully finished rooms that were nice and cool for our arrival on a 110 degree day. Should have had a meal by the way the other reviews sounds but there's a full service market right around the corner as well. Couldn't recommend more strongly...DONT MISS THE BIRDHOUSE!

I totally agree! Joey's B &B is a wonderful place to relax and be pampered. Cozy comfortable accommodations and a easy going person to point us in the directions we needed for a rest day. I will fly back to this wonderful bird house!

We had a great visit with Joey. We stayed there twice in our 4 days on the Katy. The room was unique and tastefully decorated. I have food allergies, and she cooked us a dinner to order. Just give her a day's notice. We also had a tour of her garden, got to see her artwork, and she showed us the building restorations she has been involved in. The town was very quiet and relaxing. This is a "must stay" experience on the Katy Trail. Great company, great food, and wonderful accommodations. I will do this again!

Fantastic people and a great place to stay. We stayed on the stage in the second floor of the mercantile. It was very comfortable and a wonderfully unique experience. After a day on the trail, staying in the restored building was icing on the cake. Joey was incredibly hospitable. She drove us in to town for supplies when we arrived and made a delicious breakfast the next morning. We will definitely include a stop at Joey’s on future KT rides.

Joey's Birdhouse was the highlight of our trip. We could not have asked for better accommodations. The room was beautiful, the food was great, and the location was outstanding.
Joey has a wonderful garden out back that we were able to pick fresh veggies from and add to our breakfast. Chard and eggs with fresh tomatoes and basil.
I think Joey's Birdhouse made the difference between being our first and only KATY bike trip, to the first of many future trips down the KATY trail, and everyone will surely include a night at Joey's.

Joey's birdhouse was a cute , friendly and comfortable stay for us and our two cousins as a stopover on our four day ride on the Katy trail. Joey and Rich were great hosts and took us shopping to replenish our supplies and by request provided us with a very delicious dinner. Thanks , Joey!!

Our group of 5 stayed at Joey's on a 5-day ride from St. Charles to Rocheport. We had a fantastic experience, from the time Joey welcomed us with cold beers on our arrival to the time she wished us well as we left. Joey made us a wonderful breakfast both mornings we were in town, and was always checking in to see if we needed anything. It was also great to chat with her and learn more about McKittrick and the surrounding area. Great accommodations, great food, and great conversation-highly recommended.

Highly recommended! My 11 year old daughter and I overnight here last night on a trip from Jefferson City back to St. Charles. It was perfect for us. Aside from the fact that it was clean and everything worked, Joey's hospitality was above and beyond what I'd expect. We had lovely food waiting for us in the room and we were invited to join in a monthly Farmer's Potluck dinner held next door, where we enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone. Afterwards we had a great time playing board games in our room. Breakfast was self-serve, so if you're looking for breakfast to be cooked for you, you should ask about that ahead of time. Self-serve was fine with us--we made french toast and enjoyed some yogurt.

The only reason I hesitated about recommending is because I'd like to keep this all to myself :)

Treat yourself and stay here. You won't be disappointed.

After a long wet day of riding, Joey's was a godsend! Our family of 5 stayed at Joey's a nd loved every minute of it, from the fresh produce to the charm of the rooms. She even packed up most of us and shuttled into Herman for some site seeing. Thanks for everything. All future Katy trail trips will include a stay at Joey's

It's a hostel feel with the quaintness of a b&b. perfect for the Katy trail. Snacks, quiet, a great innkeeper, it doesn't make you feel snooty nor does it make you feel like you're a grungy through-hiker. If you like to live simple and can bear a room without a tv then this is the place.

My husband and I and another couple rode from St. Charles to McKittrick. We were impressed at the rooms for the price we paid. The rooms were clean, comfortable beds, snacks, beer, toiletries and available kitchen items. Joey is super nice and was flexible with our arrangements. Will definitely visit again!

Stayed here after riding from Defiance. Room is very nice, big and clean. Included a kitchenette. There was even wifi. There was the option to eat dinner, which we did. Dinner was outstanding and the price was very reasonable: Fresh vegetables from her garden, jerk chicken, rice, meat pies. Desert was coconut cream pie. She even offered wine and various other interesting drinks (kefir, Meade, ...) everything was made by her from scratch (except the wine). Simply outstanding. Talked for a long time after dinner with Joey and Richard. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If I rode this way again I would definitely stop again. I believe they also serve lunch on Sunday and it would be worth a ride for that.

Loved Joey's Bird House! Stayed there 03/22/12. It was spotless, ultra cute, off the beaten track, and ever peaceful. Joey is quite the woman. She went above and beyond with our dinner request for a vegetarian meal. Population is 63 in McKittrick so it's just a sleepy little community. A grocery store is a 3min drive away and Hermann and its restaurants and bars are just over the bridge 10minutes away. The best part of Joey's Bird House, the Katy Trail is a stone's throw away. Would love to go back any time.

Great place to stay when riding the trail! The food was fabulous. We took the dinner option as well as breakfast, telling Joey ahead of time that we're vegetarians. One then hopes for the best, but I didn't expect the gourmet dinner Joey prepared for us, with fresh local vegetables, complete with dessert. We stuffed ourselves. Breakfast was amazing too, with plenty of extras, plus fresh fruit and handy packaged treats to take on the trail. The space is beautiful, with original art, not kitschy or cute or cluttered, and she clearly thought out the details in planning the space. I'd stay there again.

What a great B&B! The owners are a lot of fun to talk with and the town is so historic. You can see the trail from the back window and the town of Hermann, MO is only two miles over the bridge. Joey was nice enough to take me there and let me walk around for a while. Hermann has a really cool winery/deli and there's plenty of shopping, eating, etc... right along the river front. Great time. We'll be back.

nice place. I had the honor of being the first guest, even before they had hot water for the bathtub! They assured me they might put a cheap guitar in there sometime in the future.
