If you are on the Katy trail on the weekend the Claysville Store is the only place to eat and its fantastic. Mark and Laura remain the nicest people on the entire trail plus their fried chicken and Laura's blackberry cobbler can't be beat. Did I mention what nice people they are? Claysville Missouri and the Hooibrinks are a must.

Gosh Big Mike, I remember the Claysville Store from when I lived in Jefferson City and biked the Katy Trail often. You are so right, it is a great place to eat and the people working there and the owners were the best. By the way, Hartsburg was also a special town back then. Do you happen to know a former mayor, I think her name was Nancy?

For those not familiar, out of state folks, etc., the Claysville Store is not the only place to eat when on the trail on the weekend. Although choices may be slim in the immediate area of Claysville, the Claysville Store is not the only place open along the entire Katy trail on the weekend.

Where exactly is Claysville? I'm not seeing it on the map? Would LOVE to get some blackberry cobbler.

Cathy from Pittsburgh from PIttsburgh, PA on 04/05/2021 05:14 PM:
Oh yes!!! The cobbler!!!

Google maps shows it is 6.7 miles on the Katy Trail from the North Jefferson Katy Trail Jefferson City Spur. If you are going from North Jefferson City to Hartsburg it will be on your right. And the Claysville Store is about all there is there. It is a red building.

A group of four of us stopped here on our bike trip back from the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival. The pie was amazing. The service was great. The owner was very kind. Even though the store wasn't open the first time we passed it, the owner let my youngest son use the restroom. This is definitely a worthwhile stop if you're on the trail in this area.

called last week and left message for reservations for Sat July 30 at 6 pm. No call back. Even though I requested that. Now when we try and call again, it goes to a centurylink account???

Are you asking if it went to a centurylink account? You might know beings you placed a call twice.

I called today to make reservations for a Birthday dinner and received your voice mail stating you were closed for the season However it did not state when you will reopen. The dates and times of operation are crutial when making plans for a group to come and enjoy one of the great dinners.

Claysville Store (Claysville)
Barb from Centralia, MO on 06/23/2007 10:43 AM:
This store is actually a restaurant that serves home cooked, home-made pies. The entrees are pan fried chicken and fried country ham. Each dinner is served with real mashed potatoes, slathered with cream or brown gravy, green beans, slaw, applesauce and hot rolls. The prices are unbelievably reasonable...$7-8. Service is good and fast, if you have reservations, or a small group (2-4).

For a bit of back home atmosphere...it could get loud, or simply some great home cooked food, this restaurant is superior to most I've tried.

Featured are cobblers, cake and pie for dessert, or ice cream...also very reasonably priced...and better yet...home made.

Claysville store was closed that weekend to be able to attend and enjoy their daughters graduation. I only know this because I called and got the answer machine. Is is open only on the weekends, they both work full time jobs. Saturday 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Sunday 11:30am to 4:00pm, holiday mondays they open for lunch. The menu is limited on the weekend it is fried chicken and ham, on holidays it can be brauts and burgers or porksteaks. I have eaten there once and the food was good.

We tried to dine at the Claysville Store on Saturday evening, June 17th and it wasn't open. When will it be open again?

geea on 06/21/2006 12:39 AM:
If it wasn't for bad luck then you might have been able to eat at claysville store. It seems lately that they have been closed a lot. I think that in the recent months they have closed for a graduation, a death in the family, an anniversary.

I telephoned before trying to go down there last weekend (i.e. the weekend of June 17/18). The message on their answering machine indicated that they would be closed due to their daughter's wedding ... a pretty righteous excuse in my book. I just telephoned them again to verify they'd be open this coming weekend, and they will be. Though it's not required to make reservations, the person I spoke with said they always appreciated getting a call to let them know folks were on their way.

This is the link for the store. I did find out they will be closed this weekend as I called to make a reservation, disappointing, but it is family run and they will not be open. They will open again the weekend of the 7th. They do have an answering machine for messages at the number listed on the link above. They are only open Saturday from 4 to 8, and Sunday from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. They do take reservations, but it is not required. For large groups I would however recommend you do call.
