We're planning a ride on the Katy sometime in September and are thinking we would like ride 3-4 days of out and back loops, probaby 40-60 miles/day. We will have a car so driving to the trail and parking and riding for the day would work. What sections would work well for this? Rocheport sounds like a strong possibility. Anywhere else?

Thanks!

Sedalia to Windsor gives a good overview of the prairie part of the trail including the highest point on the trail. Good food stops in Green Ridge and Windsor, but check the days open and times. Start at the trail head at the southwest corner of the State Fair grounds. You could add a short bit of the RIT from Windsor or continue south for a ways if you want more miles. This route often gives you a good tailwind for the return.

St. Charles to Defiance & back, 40 miles
Rocheport to Wilton & back, 40 miles

Other than that, Boonville & Sedalia are neat towns to visit, so maybe plan rides to/from there or plan to spend the night.

There was nothing going on in Wilton in early June. Maybe the tiny building that was closed was the Riverview Traders? There's no trial head there either. But Hartsburg has Dotty's (she updates her Facebook with hours and specials) and some nice places to stay. Or go to Cooper's Landing for Thai food or to camp. There's so many options for day trips!

I really love the section from Weldon Spring to Augusta (or Marthasville). There are wineries and a brewery along this route and absolutely beautiful scenery. I just rode the entire Katy July 4-7 and also found the area around Rocheport to be absolutely stunning! Great Bike café right on the trail in Rocheport too with a killer breakfast!
