One of our group has sunlight reactions. How shaded is the trail? 25%, 50%, more? Long stretches, short?

If I had to put a number on it, I'd say 50% shady. Of course even where it's shady, some sunlight gets in. That goes for late Spring to mid-Fall as there's no leaves on the trees right now.

There are some long stretches where it's shady. From St. Charles to Augusta is mostly shady. So is a lot of the area around Columbia.

Dennis, there are a number of stretches in which there is direct sun for 3 miles or so at a time. Clinton to Windsor has a couple of them (including the high point of the trail); between New Franklin and Rocheport; and several between Bluffton and Augusta.

Of course, the sun's intensity this time of year is much less than June. But you may want to consider an early October ride since the sun is lower and there are still leaves on the trees.
