Would really appreciate an update on the current condition of the Katy Trail following the warmup, in the Mc Blaine area if anyone has any info. Thanks!

Yep. Me too. Sure would be nice if someone that was only 20 minutes from McBaine could drive down and take a look at the trail.

Very Squishy... I can barely cross over the trail to the grass without sinking in to my ankles. As of today, Sunday 1/21/2018

Dear Anonymous from Rocheport, Thank you! I appreciate your honest help. This is the first time I've posted on this forum and I'm surprised someone else had the gall to be sarcastic with their reply. I always thought folks who enjoy the outdoors on their bikes are generally good, friendly people. Their comment really took me by surprise. Sad...

Much of the trail has permafrost thaw type mud in the first 1/4" during a thaw. First the trail freezes hard. Then a thaw comes. The trail appears the same but rides at about half speed. You will notice a thin (1/8"-1/4") layer of ooze forming in front of your tires while you ride. Stopped, the trail often looks normal. I found that out the hard way during a January thaw ride from Sedalia to Windsor. Took twice as long to ride to Windsor. 2/3rd way there abandoned the trail for the roads, and returned the same way. Actually better to ride when the trail is frozen. Maybe using ice tires. Cold isn't a problem while riding. Note that cross country skiers wear thin garments and stay warm. Same with cyclists.

Hunting cameras are pretty cheap. Post some close to the trail for those who live in Columbia that may not want to go out to even the MKT trail to get an idea of the conditions.
