Wondering how good cell services / gps are on the trail. Planning on riding the whole trail and would like to record on my strava.

GPS operates independently of cell service, so Strava will keep recording. You might want to download maps beforehand in those areas where cell coverage is not great. For Verizon, the only issues I've faced are from Huntsdale to east of Hartsburg; and again from west of Tebbetts to Portland (i.e. from Rocheport to Bluffton with an island of access around Jefferson City).

I used MapMyRide and it had no problem recording, even in dense canopy and no cell service.

I also have Verizon and phone service is a little spotty in a few places. However it's usually good near the major towns. The last time I had any real problems was near Mokane about 4 years ago. We were camping at a school which was up the bluffs from Mokane and the telephone service was not good much less any 3G or 4G service.

As BikerBoy said, you should not have any trouble with Strava except maybe uploading your rides immediately each day. I use a Garmin bike computer that loads to my cell phone with Bluetooth.
