Does anyone have any current information on when they will begin working to extend the trail toward the Sports Complex? The last I have heard is that there is an issue in Greenwood and there is funding by Jackson County for Lees Summit and Raytown but nothing is happening. I lack confidence with Jackson County. They have not done much on any trail for a couple of years.

Jackson County recently opened bids for construction of the south section from Jefferson Street (just west of 291 Hwy.) to Noland Road and 350 Hwy. I would expect the low bid to be accepted and the contractor starting to clear trees in late winter before the brush starts growing again. This south section will be built along the same alignment of the old railroad tracks so its construction should move quickly in 2018. The north section from 350 Hwy. to Blue Ridge Cutoff by the stadiums probably won't be bid until summer of 2018 and that work will be much more complicated because the trail will be almost completely built away from the old tracks so the old line is in place for any future transit project. The connection from Lee's Summit to Pleasant Hill is in early study and completely unfunded so that trail work won't happen for a long time.

Thanks for the information Mark. I just wish they would start the trail at Hamblen and not Jefferson. There are some nice route choices with low traffic flow to Pleasant Hill. On a positive, something is better than nothing.

Here is more information from the Independence Examiner on the south construction project that was recently approved:

Thanks, I did see the article. Do you or anyone else know if they will connect the Knobtown Trail to Little Blue Trace? I heard they were going to but little seems to have done. Things just move too slow for me. If it will connect it would give a lot of options for riding.

I would suggest letting Jackson County that building this 3 mile gap in the Little Blue Trace Trail is just as important as the completion of the two Rock Island Trail projects. Here is a link to a good map that shows the gap - http://kcparks.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/LittleBlueAerial.pdf - a new round of regional trail funding gets solicited in 2018 so it is very important to let city and county staff know what your priorities are.
