Allynn from Columbia, IL on 8/7/2017 4:41:45 PM:
are dogs allowed on the trail if on a leash?

Brian L. from Wichita on 8/8/2017 8:00:55 AM:
Yes, according to the KATY page on the MO parks dept. website (https://mostateparks.com/page/57944/general-information): "State park regulations require leashed pets. Be considerate of other trail users and adjoining landowners."

And, this is common sense but I'll say it anyway... be super-alert for cyclists so you can get your pet out of the way or prevent your pet from darting in front of an oncoming bike.

Yes I've seen people on one side of the trail, pet on the other side, with the leash ready to "clothesline" the next biker to come along - and the pet owner had headphones so she was oblivious to her surroundings.

The pet is going to get the worst end of the deal if there is any type of collision.

Having said that, your dog will love the walk and the smells and the nature... just be careful out there.

Got clotheslined in Boonville. Owner on one side with dog on the other side of the trail. Nice line between the two. Dog owner claimed I didn't give him fair warning that we were there. Pretty odd when he lived up the street and it probably wasn't his first time on the trail. Yep. It was my fault for sure.

Anon, yes your fault. Trail etiquette 101(from DNR site): "Bicyclists should yield to pedestrians. Everyone should yield to horseback riders(even Jesus)."
