Are there any special events planned on the Katy for the 8/21/17 eclipse? I'm hoping that Coopers Landing, Rocheport, Hermann or somebody is going to have a band or something (It is a Monday, and most things on the trail are usually closed). I for one will be there riding Sat/Sun/Monday for the eclipse.

I've heard that DNR is doing a ride for the eclipse which may be where that link will take you, but it is full. But do check it out. I've also heard the Jefferson City eclipse event planners are planning a bike ride, since the DNR one filled up so quickly. We've heard that hotels in Jefferson City are completely booked. They are requiring a 2 night stay for you to book at that time. But I have not verified that all hotels are booked. Last night there was a news story that MU is offering rooms in dorms that are not used for student housing. Because their enrollment is down this year they have empty dorms. They were going to mothball them but decided to offer rooms to people there for athletic and other special events and the eclipse. I believe there will be special primitive camping on the north side of the river in Jefferson City just for that weekend. Do some google searches for eclipse things in Jefferson City to find that. Jefferson City will have many special things going on that weekend to entertain people who have booked 2 nights in our hotels. I think there will be vendors on the north side of the river to feed people. Some of us think there will be traffic jams the days leading to the eclipse in this area (especially I-70), so plan plenty of time to get to your destination. The highway patrol is saying it will be really bad Mon. afternoon right after the eclipse when everyone tries to leave this area at once. They are comparing it to evacuating Florida before a major hurricane.

There are three spots along the Katy where the center line of the eclipse shadow will fall; New Franklin, McBaine, and Mokane. That's not to say you won't be able to see it anywhere else along the trail, just that these are the prime spots.

I am waiting to see where the weather will cooperate, before choosing a spot or just staying home and watching it from here.
