We had a delightful stay at the Frenchtown Inn. We did the Katy Trail Machens to Clinton. Larry picked us up at the Amtrak station and drove us and our gear out to the Machens trailhead (which I would have never found without him). We then rode to their Inn and stayed there for the night. They kept our bikes in their garage for our stay. The inn is close to downtown St. Charles and we had a great walk to the strip and ate dinner there. Breakfast the next day was delicious and hearty. We ate with another family who had just completed the trail West to East and they shared all their knowledge of the adventure. Finally, Chris packed us a delicious and affordable lunch for the bike ride. We started this day on a Monday so most of the restaurants on the trial were closed, the lunch was a great option and was well balanced. We stayed in a bedroom on the main floor. The shower was clean and well stocked, the beds and pillows were very comfortable and we enjoyed watching the television before bed. We would definitively stay here again.

I just tried to ride the KATY Trail Extension from St. Charles to the Machens Terminus in June and the trail was still closed from flood damage. Please confirm it is open east from St. Charles!
[Suggestion...if you get to the Machens terminus drive 10 miles further & visit the Ted Jones Confluence Park to look over the merging of the two great river => The Mississippi & Missouri Rivers]
I look forward to your feedback! Case

I can confirm that the section from St. Charles to Machens is now passable. There is orange netting and a "closed" sign, but the netting is not blocking the trail. Went through there over a week ago and there were lots of riders. However, the river did a lot of damage and there is a washed out, sandy section (at the lowest point sign of the Katy Trail = 436'), but it's only about 150' total of rough trail. At the worst, you may have to walk your bike if it has rained, because it will be muddy. The river has receded and the trail is passable, especially for those that want to say they completed the entire trail.
