It's been a couple of years since i've rode the trail north out of Sedalia. Today, I rode it. Why was the trail rerouted on that little dangerous hot hilly blackout road that the trail now follows out of town? Why did they take out the trail there?

Well, I got lost trying to find access to the trail last month and stopped by a manufacturing business to ask directions. He said he believed that some business along the tracks/trail owned the tracks now and not given permission for it to be used for trail.

Just what I was told, don't know if it is true.

There was a long article in the Sedalia paper about the closing. Apparently the ROW was still under the control of a factory owner who is interested in using it for his business.

I rode it this morning. Saw one vehicle going in the opposite direction. Route is well marked with signs and marking on the road in birth directions. Pavement is fine and it adds maybe .7 miles.

After a long day of riding, that blacktop throws an awful lot of heat at you. The chance of being hit by a car are increased by 100%. No shoulder. The hills up were not fun. I probably would not go through Sedalia again, since from Sedalia to Boonville was the hardest part of the trip in hills up and that non trail part of the Katy. Although,it was a beautiful stretch and everyone should see it at least once. Coming back from Boonville I got to coast for about four miles, certainly loved that part about the trail. lol

So what exactly is the best route to the trail? We are riding Amtrak and staying at the Hotel Bothwell in June, then will hit the trail/road for Booneville the next day.

Is it safest to take East Booneville Rd to Randall Rd or Heard Avenue to E. Greisssen then east to the trail head?

Any advice?

See my comment above. It's not difficult. In the morning it will be cool and there's little traffic
