I'm supposed to take the Amtrak from Kirkwood to Sedalia and bike back to my car over 4 days starting tomorrow. In St Louis area there has been a lot of rain. Is the trail going to be rideable in the next couple of days, or should I cancel my trip?

KC from Austin on 4/29/2017 11:01:04 PM:
Judging from the news I've seen, I would say re-schedule your ride. Sorry....

I live 5 min. from the trail near Weldon Spring and it was pouring all day (saturday) with flash flood warnings all over. There is still rain in the forecast. I would consider rescheduling. That is unfortunate if you are from out of town and had been planning the trip. Hope you are able to find another time to make it back, the trail is wonderful.

I agree with KC. They are calling for rain tomorrow through Thurs. except for Tues. The Missouri River and other rivers are already high. So you'll be biking in miserable weather and having to worry about flooding.

For anyone trying to figure out the current status and predictions for the Missouri River, google Missouri River Flooding, then find the link to the National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Predictions. You will find predictions for how high the water is expected to rise, and the impact of the different levels. You can check on the level at different gauges, for example St. Charles, Boonville, Jefferson City, etc.

Troy, I hope you can re-schedule your trip.

One real cperson ncern along the trail is the washouts. With the hills and bluffs along the trail the water runs down to the flats and after big rains the trail will wash out. Where roads cross the trails the water does the same there too. With 4 plus inches of rain in two days more coming ,,,reschedule....
