What types of bikes are compatible in KT?

Anonymous on 4/23/2017 9:23:32 PM:
Baki, the bicycle that you ride right now is compatible for the Kathy Trail. Come on down and enjoy.

Hybrids, cyclocross, and mountain bikes are just some of the bikes that are fine for the Katy. You don't need knobby tires.

Road bikes with skinny tires can be a problem as the crushed limestone can get bumpy and a little soft in places.

I weigh 215 lbs and ride on a touring bike with 700x32 tires. They are fine even when the trail is wet. I've ridden my road bike with 700x25 tires on the Katy, but really didn't enjoy it. At my weight, I think that 700x28's would be the smallest that I'd be willing to go.

Here is the bike image that I am planning to ride in Katy trail. Is this bike compatible?

That should work fine.

Should be fine. Have a great ride.

That Windsor Oxford Deluxe should be fine for the flat parts of the Katy Trail. However if you are riding between Clinton and Boonville, that 3-speed hub may not be enough. It's hilly on that part.

The tires are the same size that I use on my Windsor Tourist and as I said above, they are plenty good for my 215 lb weight.

You might want to consider the Gravity Swift8 as it has an 8-speed internal hub for the same price.

There's also the Windsor Kensington 8 Speed which is more like the Oxford, but with the 8-speed internal hub and, of course, a $100 higher price.

The trail is pretty forgiving if the weather is good. When it gets rainy and soft the trail itself and washout areas gets tricky. Some areas are prone to flats so you need pretty strong reliable tires. Most bikes work pretty well. I wouldn't overthink the bike choice. Happy Trails.
