Wondering if this might be a solution to finding lodgings all up and down the Katy and RI trails?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbnb

I'm thinking it must be something like UBER, with a bedroom?

No interest????

As I understand it, Airbnb housing does not need to be an established B&B (although many B&B's are available this way). It could literally be anything from a vacant farm house on the side of the trail to an empty bedroom in your house, my house, any house. It could be an unused 2nd story loft in a commercial building in P-Hill, Leeton, Chilhowee or Windsor. Basically, a safe, clean roof over your head at night.

It need not be staffed. There are 3 of them shown in Boonville that appear to simply be empty vacant homes in residential neighborhoods. You rent the entire house for the night or as long as you like. There seems to be a ton of them in Columbia and Jefferson City.

So given those parameters, what would be a reasonable amount you would expect to pay for lodging for the night, assuming it is near or on the trail?

Who are you addressing here? Are you asking home owners to sign on with AirBnB?

Are you asking bike riders what they'd pay to spend the night at an AirBnB? Wouldn't cost of service be determined by the AirBnB owner or the market (which is already established along the Katy)?

Sounds like you just stumbled upon AirBnB (and Uber) and are trying to coordinate with home owners to establish themselves with AirBnB with information on what the public is willing to pay to entice them.

Not saying its a bad idea, but there may be a better avenue to reach home owners along the RIT for you to do your sales pitch.

Airbnb is a cool service... but it can be anything... as a bnb operator...I thought about listing on it... but when they wanted me to send my picture, DL number and birthdate over the internet...I said no. I have heard lots of people using it and liking the service. Just a different perspective on the service. -Sarah... Eber Haus Hartsburg

Actually I'm not pitching anything, except awareness of the concept. I have no dog in the hunt. On the other hand, when I see there is no place for riders to stay from P-Hill to Windsor......but know there are residential structures on farms and in the small towns all along the way.......each one is a potential nights lodging.....why not mention it to put the bug into someone's ear to try it? It might be a win-win for somebody. Or a lot of somebodies. It would be up to them to make those choices.....or not.

LK, you are right, Airbnb, as well as VRBO (vacation rentals by owner) are good ways for people that live along the Rock Island and Katy Trail to do like people all over the country are doing, offer space they have to vacationers, and make some extra cash. I know two couples in Jefferson City that have great older buildings that they list on those websites. Both are within a mile or less of the access to the bridge over the Missouri River. I hope your post plants a few seeds in the minds of people in the communities where people are really looking for places to stay.

I do not believe the demand is there yet. Maybe after the RIT is built with a fully connected loop. Read the KT economic study. Very limited and seasonal.

Planting a seed at point of use may be more effective than a shotgun approach from afar. Chamber of Commerce, city hall, etc. may be more effective. Some towns/cities have regulations that prohibit such use making a seed thrown from here ultimately fruitless. It all caused a big fray not long ago in New York. Although widely accepted and often desired, Uber is not available in all towns due to ordinance. Seeds can't always grow where sown.
