Here's the reason for the KATY route change in Sedalia as reported in the Sedalia Democrat newspaper.

"[...] a new owner wants to refurbish the vacant buildings on the property, which needs the railroad spur connected to Katy Trail State Park."

The article mentions possible plans to regain access by through the property by building a path off of the rail bed but within the existing right-of-way.
