Good afternoon all,

friends and I are planning to ride the entire KT somewhere from mod-April to early May. Anyone have a good feel for what type of services (lodging, camping, food, etc) would be available that early?

Thank Much.
Marianna

Most places should be open mid-April. A lot of the places on the trail are closed on Mondays and/or Tuesdays though so plan ahead.

My freind and I are planning on this trip at thd same time. We just started our planning and have no idea on lodging, eating establishments, and where to find shuttle service. Any and all information would be appreciated.

Just my 2 cents worth. I rode the Katy two years ago, by myself. I used this side to plan my whole trip. Using the mileage charts to plan how many miles I would ride on a given day, then going to that town to check the amenities they provided. Called the places I was going to stay, made my reservations, found out if they only took cash, credit card, or checks. Read all the forums I could find in the past and present.
The trip couldn't have gone any smoother. Met wonderful people, had terrific meals and got great ideas from all the previous riders that wrote in on this forum.
It's actually quite easy to do and make your decisions on your ability.
Good Luck and Good riding.

Go to Weather Underground an check 3-4 years of past dates for temperatures, winds, and precipitation for the dates you plan to ride in 2017 for cities like Clinton, Boonville, Jefferson City, Herman, and St. Charles an you will get an idea of the expected weather conditions for April - May.

Eber Haus Inn is open and running in Hartsburg, so is the Globe!

April/May can be very wet months (seems to happen every 3 years or so). Prepare to add an extra day or two due to weather. This site is the best resource, by far.
Also, call the MO Dept Parks and Recreation and have them send you a couple of Katy Trail maps. They do not list individual businesses, but their map folds out and up nicely. And they like to know that they are drawing interest from TX, CO and other areas.

I now have a group of 4 coming up from Belton, Tx. Just trying to put our trip together. I ordred and received the small laminated mapp. Looks Very helpful just have not studied it that deeply yet. Just today my biking buddy met two Drs. from here who spoke at the local cycling board monthly meeting. Their topic wast the Katy Trail. Some good info.

Don, I just drove past Belton this morning on my way to a meeting in Austin. I sure like your weather in January compared to ours in Illinois!

As far as lodging, I would highly recommend the B&B's along the trail, as they cater to the cyclists and are as varied and unique as the nature along the trail. Also, it's not unheard of to combine some nights camping and other nights at B&B's to give you the overall flavor.
