I'm curious about parking at Pleasant Hill for the trailhead. I'm not seeing anything obvious. Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

There is a large gravel parking lot at the Purvis Rd. trail head which is about a mile southeast of downtown.

Another note about the trail head in PH. Purvis Road is gravel all the way. My vehicle, bike, and bike rack were covered with gravel dust upon arrival. So, if you don't like driving your vehicle on a gravel road, you're best to pick another trail head. I have not been to Medford yet to check out if there is one there. Chilhowee's trail head is right off the pavement.

I was there for the ribbon cutting ceremony, there is a trail head built up like the others with plenty of parking. It's located on the west edge of Pleasant Hill directly off Highway 58. As they say, you can't miss it.

It took me a while to find the parking area myself.

How I found it, coming from Lee's Summit, MO, where i live:

Highway 7 south from LS to Pleasant Hill.
turn left, go east on Hwy 58
east on 58 short distance to Purvis Road
turn right on Purvis, heading south now
trail parking will be on your left maybe a mile down Purvis, give or take

Matt, that google link is to Woodland, CA. A tad bit out of the way on the Rock Island trail. :-)

Matt, next time you go, try turning right instead on HWY 58 at Pleasant Hill (heading west) follow it through town and as you start leaving the town on the west side look to your left. You should see the main trail head parking lot. Following the trail from there you will pass the Purvis lot on your ride.

So there are actually two RIT Trailheads in Pleasant Hill?

Jim from St Thomas on 12/28/2016 5:55:47 PM:
Sorry dear brother but the link takes me to Pleasant Hill, MO.

Gary from Near Tebbetts on 12/29/2016 1:32:23 AM:
Stu, I don't know about the Purvis street location but the HWY 58 one was the trail head where the ribbon cutting ceremony was held.

Jim, that is weird, the email link of new posts had the underlined link that took me to Woodland CA but the link in the website post takes me to Pleasant Hill MO. Looks like the same link with the only difference one being underlined and the other not.

Gary, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware that there was a trailhead there. I was misinformed that the trail was unfinished west of Hwy 7 to that part of PH, and that the only trailhead was the one at Purvis. I would much rather use the one on 58. It's closer and more convenient, plus your vehicle doesn't get covered with gravel dust. I'm going to try and check it out this weekend, weather permitting.

The trail head is by the Cass County Stockyard. E-mail me and I will send some pics.

My apologies if my previous link was bad. If you visit the Mo Rock Island Trail Facebook page, in the visitor comments section I've posted the Google maps locations to both Pleasant Hill trailhead locations. There is one downtown, and one a bit east of PH outside of town on Purvis Road about a mile south of Hwy 58.
