Katy Trail Rock Island Spur Comments
Our Katy Ride October 2016

First, Brad Hayward, simply WOW!
My husband and I rode the Katy from Clinton to Machens, starting October 3rd and ending the 16th, hoping to win the title "The Bikers Who Took the Longest Time to Ride the Katy," but didn't. We are from CO, casual riders who have never done anything like this before, doing this for my 70th birthday. We averaged 25 miles a day on the trail with days off just to be tourists. Our accommodations were our 26-foot travel trailer and truck. Heaven to get in our own bed every night! We were able to do this with the shuttling services of ShowMeMOTours and the great owners Barbara and Roy Gokenbach. Tons of kudos to them for doing something new, driving from St. Louis and putting up with the changes we made along the way. They also shuttled us from trailer to trailheads on some days. We camped 4 nights at Katy Roundhouse and did the distance from Pilot Grove to Jeff City with 3 shuttles from the Marven Cotten of Mo River Shuttles in Boonsvile. He was always prompt, knew all the shortcuts and do's and don'ts of the trail. Also thanks to Katy Roundhouse and Steamboat Junction, peaceful, rural campgrounds that didn't jar you from the solitude of the trail.
The Katy Trail is one-in-a-million, able to propel the biker from helter-skelter modern life back to a quiet rural life in just minutes. We loved every minute of the peace and beauty of the trail. Read every history board at every trailhead. We didn't think the trail totally flat, but measured increments in inches not feet. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources deserves much praise for bringing the trail into existence and maintaining the integrity of the trail.

Hey there. My buddy Pat and I may have ran into you two, not sure exactly but I remember talking to a couple from Colorado about that time. Check out katy trail 2016 via Hondo on youtube to see if you recognize us. Great ride!

What great videos! I got to watch the first 2 and will watch the rest later. I have biked the Katy Trail from Boonville east to St. Charles. But after watching your video of the western part of the trail I am determined to cover from Clinton to who knows where! For people who are trying to decide whether you want to come to Missouri to bike the Katy Trail watch Hondo's videos. You'll see the beauty of the trail. I just went to you tube and did a search for Hondo Katy Trail. Also, the 2nd video has very good video of the Turner Shelter in Tebbetts. Thanks Hondo!
