Katy Trail Rock Island Spur Comments
Barriers across the trail can be dangerous.

All along the trail, whenever the trail intersects with a road, there are wooden barriers to keep cars from entering the trail. In some cases only one side is closed, or the barriers are staggered, or there is a large gap. These are all fine. But some of the barriers have a narrow gap and that can be dangerous. We came through one just outside Rhineland on the way to McKittrick. It was dusk and we were tired. One of our party had a mirror mounted on her handlebars, and she didn't make it through the narrow gap. Fortunately just scrapes and bruises, no broken bones. But I think it is a hazard.

Yeah, some of them could be a little wider. There are several near Pilot Grove where you cross a fast road (not busy, but fast) and you want to get across as fast as possible. Then you come the the barrier right away. It's especially bad if you have panniers on the back because you have to slow down to make sure you can get through. I think the barriers are also designed to keep out ATVs, so maybe that's why they are so close.

The tips of them could be painted brighter. I've seen some that aren't painted at all or have a yellow or orange collar that's a few inches from the end of the barrier tip.

I would agree with the painted ends and a delectable paint which could pickup a bikes headlight would help.

I meant to say that the ends should be painted with reflective paint. Thanks for your patience.
