We are planning on riding from the Hwy 40/64 bridge to Clinton. Does anyone know if we will be able to sneak past the 4 mi. closure west of Augusta. It appears the closure is not for trail repairs, rather nearby construction traffic. I'm hoping can cautiously proceed and get out of the way if necessary

The trail is closed during the week and open on the weekend.

I was biking west to east last week through Augusta. I tried to bike through where they are working on the trail. Gravel much too loose to ride on. Took the detour onto curvy steep road without a shoulder. Detour poorly marked. Had to ask directions in Augusta. The detour was less than a mile I think. Larry, Enid, OK

The advisory indicates that the Katy Trail is closed Monday thru Thurs. It is a 2 mile section that is affected. They have orange fencing up at MM 66.4(Augusta TH) along with signage indicating that it is CLOSED. Not sure why anyone would think it would be okay to cross that and proceed. The state advisory says "no recommended detour", so maybe that is why it is "poorly marked".

The trail is closed on the weekend too. The detour is not marked, but is easy to find. The road was easy to ride. No shoulder, but also no traffic.

Your name, getting through trail closures is a risk just as riding on open trails. Many times you walk or carry your bike on trails. The roads around the KT are not really bike friendly. Many people travel from out-of-state to ride the KT. Trail closures for most KT riders are an acceptable risk.

We went through there about Sept 6. After work hours the workers are gone the machines are turned off, and it is a simple ride. Others came through while workers still there. They just took their time and came through. The road does NOT look safe. I would go through the closed trail, as it is safer.

Does anyone know how long this section is supposed to be closed?

John Hutchins from Pacific on 9/25/2016 12:55:37 PM:
No idea how long it will be closed. But there is an easy detour around the closure. Just go into Augusta and find High Street. Take it west. It will go down the hill and parallel the trail as Augusta Bottoms Rd. Stay on the road until it turns left and crosses the trail. Then get back on the trail.

Just rode through there Wednesday. Not closed off at all. Bridge work almost done and open. Have to watch for rough spots but we found much rougher areas earlier on the trail

We just rode that section on Friday. It was open all the way between Dutzow and Augusta.
