i don't know if anyone has posted about this yet, but the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse path of totality crosses the trail just North of McBaine.

It will also cross just west of Mokane, giving yet another option if the weather does not cooperate.

The maximum eclipse will cross the Katy twice: first time just south of the Katy Roundhouse in New Franklin, and then again (as mentioned below) near the Mokane trailhead. I plan to be there for the New Franklin viewing.

Sorry, I stand corrected. The eclipse maximum will cross the Katy THREE times: New Franklin, then next to the Bur Oak in McBaine, then again in Mokane. All three locations have good open areas to view the sun, but the weather will have to cooperate.
