Hello all!

Has anyone stored their bikes/gear In Sedalia for most of a day? I've got a plan that requires this and am interested to hear if anyone else has done this. Storage unit?

I've been racking my brain to come up with the easiest, most affordable way (assuming time spent in a car "costs money") for 5 people to arrange rides. So far my plan is for us to drive two vehicles to Sedalia to drop off bikes and gear, then drive our cars and pick up a rental car and head to the trail end - drop off cars, drive back to Sedalia in rental car, drop off the rental car and ride. I figure the nominal cost of renting a car for one day outweighs bringing a third vehicle and being able to go straight home after we finish. The cost to rent a van or uhaul outweighs the cost of storing bikes in Sedalia. I thought about just renting the car In Saint Charles but the drop off fee is more then the gas money to make it a round trip.

Is this ridiculous? It seems over thought but it's my best plan so far. We will have trailers and such so Amtrack sounds like a hassle (and rental car plus storage fee appears cheaper anyway for 5 people).

Have you priced a shuttle service? A group of us did it last year using a shuttle seems cost was about 55.00 each and it was pretty easy.

I have, and it does seem to be the least amount of fuss but this way saves about 200 dollars (we're doing the broke, camping thing). I will certainly brig this option up to the group though as vacation days cost money also and this requires a day of driving.

If I were in your situation, I would contact Pro-Velo bike shop in Sedalia (660-826-3322) and see if they would be willing to store your bikes for you. Chances are you and your riding party need some tubes, repairs, or equipment that you could buy from them.

If you are staying in Sedalia the night before your ride, ask whomever is providing the lodging. They'll surely accommodate that simple request. If not, stay somewhere that will.

My wife points out that every avid cyclist should have a non-biker like her who will explore antique shops and diners along the route while serving as a support vehicle. M sister, bro-in-law have biked from Clinton to St. Charles many times with my beloved ready to transport us and our gear back home. 5 people and bikes makes it more of a task but an inexpensive u-haul trailer behind a mini-van works as an inexpensive way to get it done.
