We are considering doing the trail from St Charles to Clinton in three days, about 70 a day. We've done that mileage before on a road bike but not sure if it's doable on the Katy Trail. Will appreciate any advice! Thanks

I have done it several times and enjoyed it. I usually go Clinton to Boonville. Boonville to Rhineland. Rhineland to St. Charles.

Picked those places because of hotel accommodations that work for me.

There are plenty of other options.

Enjoy.

70 per day on the Katy is not difficult as long as you get an early start. 45-50 in the morning with 20-25 (or more) after lunch is very doable. The summer heat such as we are experiencing now can be quite challenging especially mid to late day, but as long as the weather is not extreme you should not have much problem.

Boonville, Hermann, St. Charles have the stop over provisions for a 3 day ride. Only other comment, with the heat sometimes storms pop up in the early afternoon.

I agree. 3 days is a relatively easy ride if you're used to doing distances. It doesn't leave a lot of time for exploring the towns along the way but its a good way to see the whole trail and give you ideas for a more relaxed ride in the future.

Agree with the comments above. Similar recommendations for stops with the difference being the overnight on day 2. In my experience - Rhineland is right on the trail and has a B&B and a cafe/bar right across the street from each other...literally...both on the trail.

...but Hermann (which makes for a longer day by about 6-7 miles) offers more options for both housing and food.

Either will work - depending on your preferences and budget.
