Is there a store in Sedalia or St Charles that I can purchase a trail map. I am leaving Friday(7-15-16) for a family function in Oklahoma and start riding the following Monday. Taking Amtrak from Sedalia to St. Louis and riding back. I don't want to order a map because I am afraid I may not receive in time. I have never done a multiday bike ride before, not sure how many miles I can ride in a day and I don't want to pre book everything in advance. Tips and advice is much appreciated.

They had the laminated maps at the depot in Sedalia, although I do not know whether they still have any in stock.

MO State Parks Dept produces paper pamphlet-style maps, which you will find at most trailheads. Also most of the trailheads have large display boards with a trail map and other info of local / historical interest.

Since you are starting on a Monday, be aware that some of the small-town restaurants are closed on Mondays or Tuesdays. But places like Caseys are always open.

My best advice is to read through this forum as much as you can. There is a wealth of information here from so many riders' personal experiences, and you'll feel very well-informed after reading through a few pages of posts. And of course, ask more questions if you have any.

Good luck and have fun out there. Happy trails!

The Missouri Welcome Centers stock the Katy maps at most of their facilities. They are at the borders of adjacent states, on the Interstates.

Sedalia depot had maps as of May when we went through there.

But like Ray said, the trail is one of the best-marked and highlighted trails in the country. Large maps and points of interest every 5-10 miles at each rest stop.

You can also pick one up at the welcome center at the MO state line. I know the one on I-44, just west of Joplin, had them in stock. Have a great ride!

They have them at the Rocheport trailhead. I would imagine they have them at other larger trailheads too.

As noted you can find them - but I can't for the life of me understand why you would need one. It's REALLY clear cut.

You don't need one for navigation at all, but I found the one from the state invaluable. I would mark the sights and destinations we wanted to see before we hit the trail. Things like Burr Oak will whiz by you if you don't plan when to pull off the trail. And the mile markers, for me, were not always obvious.
