What are my options to get from St. Charles Trailhead to Kirkwood train station? How many miles to ride? Is there a shuttle service? Cost?

Check out The Touring Cyclist in St. Charles.
Used them back in March, $45 for up to four bikes.
The bike ride is over 20 miles and mostly on streets, some busy.

I always use St. Charles cab company. They bring a mini van, good for one or two bikes. I used them about two weeks ago, think it was right at 40 dollars.
