Suggestions for the best rides where there are wineries and/or B&B's. Looking to take my wife on a 40th bday excursion.

If you want wineries, Augusta and/or Hermann need to be on the trip. Hermann has many B&Bs plus very good wineries and restaurants. Augusta isn't as big as Hermann, but very nice it its own way.

The Rocheport area is one of the most scenic and diverse along the trail. There is a winery on top of the bluff that has a bistro and A-frame with deck overlooking the river valley below. It's a favorite area of ours, and close coming from the Kansas City area.

If you are more into wine than ride, I'd head for the Hermann area with its scenic ride along Portland, Bluffton, Rhineland, etc. There are numberous B&B's in Hermann and several wineries. Hermann Hill is a good place for a celebration as well as the Hermanoff cottages. The Stone Hill tour is nice if you've never seen a huge prohibition era wine cellar and Hermannoff is a good time with the Polka music and atmosphere on the patio.

Montelle winery east of Augusta has sunset dinners on their deck overlooking the valley below, with live music of course. It's a few miles off the trail, but is a good stop if you have your vehicle with you. We've been there several times with intentions of going again.
