Planning on a 2 day ride this spring and was hoping to get people's thoughts on vehicle parking at New Franklin for a 2-day, 1-night ride to Tebbetts and back. The group prefers not to ride over the Boonville Bridge so we are looking at parking on the North side of the river.

Any history of safety issues at the New Franklin parking area?

There shouldn't be a problem in New Franklin, but I'd park at the casino in Booneville under a light (which is right on the Katy)......and then hit the casino buffet once I got back to my car.

I've left the car at the trailhead in New Franklin overnight without issue. I would not leave it at the little parking lot that is on the north side of the river, south of New Franklin. Before considering that option, I'd park at the casino as Arky suggested.

The Boonville bridge has a sidewalk/bike lane that is separate and protected from vehicular traffic. Unless one is afraid of heights and can't keep from stopping and looking down, riding over the bridge is pretty easy. I guess if someone in the group tends to be a jumper it may not be a good idea to temp their fate.

I stay at the Katy Roundhouse campground. You could park there, just rent a tent site. I never have any problems. Lots of Katy bikers and Boy Scouts camp there.
