Hello, I've read on the Katy website that the KC connection may be in place sometime in 16'. Looks like you can board Amtrak with a bike at Alton,Ill & travel to Lee's Summit ,Mo. Would this be close to the KC connector? Any info when the KC will be ready? I would like to ride this route if possible sometime in 16" Thanks

Front what I have seen, it would be optimistic to think it will be done before the end of the year (2016). I hope its sooner...but not "holding my breath".

The Rock Island line runs about about 2 miles from the Lee's Summit station at its closest. I don't expect it to be complete in 2016 either, but you never know.

Parts of the connection from Lee's Summit to Windsor are being worked on. From what I read, there will be more work starting at the KC end, but there is no way that you will be able to ride a completed trail from KC to Windsor by the end of the year. I sure wish there was.

It is the Windsor to Pleasant Hill section that the MO governor and DNR parks director recently said will be completed by the end of 2016. However, as others have indicated, don't count on that. It is approx. 10 miles from the Amtrak Station in Lee's Summit to the Pleasant Hill TH by rail. However, I believe what Lee's Summitt current plan to connect to the Pleasant Hill TH is via a bike lane on a road. This project could only possibly move forward if/when the Windsor/Pleasant Hill connection is complete.

Regarding the Rock Island Railroad Trail project, there was an AP article in Sunday's Jefferson City News Tribune titled "Trail Project filled with promises, obstacles." If you go to the News Tribune's archive you might find it, but they charge for copies of their articles. If you google Rock Island Railroad you will find the same article dated today for free in the Columbia Missourian. It is quite a long article. It gives a lot of information about what the section in Jackson County will cost and what the county is contributing.
