I have ridden the KATY many times, also the GAP and C&O. I feel it is very important to take some emergency food along on most trips. Some times, especially early in the week you may encounter places to eat are closed or even out of business. The people in these small towns try hard but if there isn't many customers it doesn't make sense to open and loose money. So do a lot of research and take some extra food and your trip will be a lot more fun.

Happy Railtrails,
Allen

Could not agree more. Been more than once I was glad I had a couple bars in my seat bag when things I thought would be open were closed.

Yes, absolutely. Also applies to Katy trail souvenirs...if you see one, grab it. Very few places have stuff like t-shirts, jerseys, stickers, etc. And the Sedalia depot was closed both days we were there, just bad timing for us.

[Shameless commercial plug]
KC & other souvenir-shoppers, If you miss getting souvenirs while on the trail, or just don't want to have to carry them during your trip, you can order t-shirts and stickers online by clicking the "Shirts/Merchandise" link near the top-right of this web page. :-)

That's a great plug, webmaster...I actually bought an anniversary cycling tee at Katy Bike Rental in Defiance and have worn it constantly. With matching socks. Best kit in Texas.

Besides the merchandise found on this site, you might also checkout the Sedalia Depot's site at:

and the State Parks site at:

Ray, we need more shameless commercial plugs.
Just like the Cardinal Nation we need to grow BikeKatyTrail.com worldwide. Ride on!

I agree, the Katy needs to be recognized for the treasure it is! Missouri is so fortunate, and smart, to have this...nothing like it anywhere. And Ray you'll be happy to know I wore my Katy anniversary tee in a Special Olympics charity ride yesterday!
