We just finished our fabulous Katy Trail trip in October. I loved it so much. Have any of you longtime cyclists heard of the Roman military road running from Germany to Verona that is becoming popular with cyclists? This is the write up in our paper about it last week.

KC, that is a nice article. One can always dream... Hope the massive rains in Austin didn't do much damage to the trail on Lady Bird lake.

KC what's the story about people being robbed on the Texas Katy Trail?

Don from Ellisville, MO on 11/5/2015 8:59:02 PM:
That's the Dallas area, not Austin. Austin is kind of a separate enclave from the rest of Texas!

I haven't heard that about the Katy in Dallas. For us, there is only ONE Katy Trail. And I already want to go back! It totally spoiled me for biking even on quiet streets in my town. Don I haven't been on the Lady Bird trails but they usually hold up pretty well even with massive rainfall. When you are back in Austin you need to check out the boardwalk they added: it makes it a continuous 10-mile loop around the lake with spectacular views of downtown. The boardwalk is over the water and has a much more urban feel than the rest of the trail

Awesome article, thanks for posting

The Katy Trail in Dallas is really an urban jogging/walking path. It only 3 or 4 miles long and starts at The American Airlines center (Home of the Dallas Mavericks) and goes North through the heavy populated urban center. Not very bike friendly, just to many people. Robberies have occurred on trail simply due to the vast majority of potential victims. Really not a place to be afraid of for a walk through Dallas city center. Would never consider taking my bike on the trail. Try white rock lake trail if you are biking in Dallas, beautiful.

I have always wanted to bike White Rock Lake, thanks for the reminder. Texas is slowly coming around as far as dedicated bike trails. There is a fabulous paved trail in San Antonio that connects all the historic Spanish missions along the San Antonio River. And Dallas/Ft. Worth are collaborating on a 64 mile “superhighway of bicycles...the trail will run mostly along the Trinity River -- from existing bike paths in downtown Fort Worth through Arlington, then in a loop through Irving and Grand Prairie and finishing off on the new Trinity Skyline Trail in Downtown Dallas."

@KC from Austin - I haven't heard of this, but love traveling in Italy and cycling. If you end up planning a trip, let us know. Would love to tag along!

I think Austin is the Key West of Texas, free spirits right?

Maybe used to be...talk to most old timers and they/we bemoan all the newcomers and loss of Austin's soul. Growing way too fast, but it's nice to have a healthy economy.
