Planning my first overnight katy trail trip for October with my friend. So far my plan is to take Amtrak to Jefferson City bike to Bluffton that same day, then second day to Marthasville and third day St. Charles. Or Jeff city to Mckittrick, Augusta, then St. Charles. Any suggestions on route, best places B&B to stay at or days of week to go on are welcome.

It sounds like you don't plan on spending the night in Jeff City. But if your plans change and you want to stay in Jeff City, we have a fantastic B & B, Cliff Manor Inn, that is very close to where you get on the Pedestrian/Bike path to cross the bridge over the Missouri River. It's about 2 miles from the N. Jefferson Trailhead. That is our only B & B in Jeff City. There is the Rendleman House B & B in Bluffton. I've stayed there, Doug is a wonderful host who will serve you supper and breakfast. There's also a campground near Doug's that has a couple of cabins. In Marthasville I've stayed at the Little House B & B. You get the whole house (It's 2 bedrooms), and there is a kitchen stocked with breakfast food, as you don't get a breakfast served by the innkeeper. We loved the place. Also, Marthasville is close to Washington, that probably has lots of B & Bs, but the bridge over the river is not safe for bicycling on. McKittrick has Joey's Birdhouse that gets lots of great reviews on this site. McKittrick is across the river from Hermann, that has plenty of places to stay. There is a safe bridge to bicycle across the Missouri River.

As for days to travel, some places are closed on Mondays. You should check websites, or even call if you want to make sure which places will be open. For example I think the only place in Hartsburg where you can get breakfast or lunch is Dotty's and she is open Thurs.-Sun.

Finally if you are planning on taking Amtrak to Jeff City then biking that day, what time will you get to Jeff City? You might not have time to do much biking if you arrive in the afternoon.

We just did this trip, started Thursday and got off train at 11:30 in N Jefferson City and rode to Bluffton. Stayed at the campground in a cabin (Rendelman House not in business) Next day rode to Marthasville and stayed at the Little Bed & Brk (great place) and rode to St Charles next day. Nothing the last 18 miles as far as get water, ect.
