Katy Trail Rock Island Spur Comments
Familiar w/ the John Wayne Pioneer Trail in WA?

Unlike this fine Comment feature on the Katy, the John Wayne (Can't keep saying that name without feeling silly, so I'll refer to it as the JWP.) doesn't seem to have a useful one, so detailed current info is a bit hard to come by. I'm planning to bike-camp it, maybe early this fall or early next summer, or at least the part that is west of the Columbia.

The JWP has apparently just passed the Katy as the longest railtrail in the US (They got more of the eastern part renovated?) and the western part looks interesting. Anyone have any first-hand info about the JWP that she or he would be willing to share? Or know anyone? Or anyone who knows anyone? All reasonably relevant data will be appreciated. Hey, I'm a fact-based guy. Thnx.

Maybe you have already, but if not, search John Wayne Pioneer Trail on crazyguyonabike dot com. There are riders who have journaled riding portions of the trail and even the famed "what kind of tires to use" topic.

Thnx for that tip, Trek. (Did Mom name you after her bike? Cool.) I'll check out the link.

OK, Trek, I've searched that large site every way I can think of. Nothing re JWP. Site is pretty light on non-paved riding. Thnx again, though.

That's too bad Skeep. When I searched the Journals for John Wayne Pioneer Trail the result was 4 to 5 pages of journal/guestbook entries, photos of the trail, tunnel entries, trestles, etc. Enough there to make me wonder about a trip out to see the eldest son in Seattle and paying the trail a visit sometime.
