Interested in hiking the trail. Are there a lot who do that? Also what are the best spots for hikers? Thanks!

Only rode it once. Would be great for hiking. Right distance between towns. Start anywhere. Beautiful scenery

I liked the Boonville or St Charles area while on bike.

Use the tags on the upper left of the comment forum page to select hiking. That will filter the comments related to hiking the trail. You can also search the site here or via your favorite search engine. There are probably blogs of hiking the Katy on the web outside of this site too.

I just round-tripped the Katy on my bike and only met 1 thru-hiker during my journey. I agree that the towns are spaced apart nicely but I would probably argue that the trail is just too flat and straight and the surroundings just don't change much to make hiking it seem like an interesting and pleasant endeavor. I will be back to bike it again, though.

While I greatly enjoy riding the KATY on a bike, I agree with the previous comment that I think I would be a bit bored walking it...unless I just wanted the challenge of walking that far.

Fall is a beautiful time to be on the Trail! Flat doesn't have to equal boring - lots of things to see! I have been riding the Trail for years and it is never boring to me. I am always seeing new things and enjoy the time outdoors.

The weekend of Oct. 10 we will be having a forum get together at the Roundhouse campground near Boonville - if you are in the area that weekend, please join us! Look for announcements about Mid-South's annual ride. Hikers are welcome, too!
