With the trail being relatively flat and a slight decent (west to east), have the regulars of the trail completed one direction in 2 days? Assuming the trail conditions are good that is. I will be leaving from Colorado May 30th and heading east on the TransAm route and would like to jump up to the Katy. Tried in 2013, but got word most of the trail was flooded and decided to stay on the TransAm. Thanks in advance. PedalOn!

The trail has been done in two days, and has been done in one day...but not by the "regulars". Most touring the trail with gear do so in 3-5 days. The athletes doing it in one day carry no gear and usually have a support crew to meet them at the trailheads. For me there is way to much to see along the trail to try and do it in 2 days. I have done the trail many times and usually take 4-5 days and enjoy it.

i've done it in 2 days out and back with loaded panniers from Clinton to Marthasville and back. It is quite doable one way for a dedicated average rider.

You just have to ask yourself how easy/comfortable is it for you to travel 120 miles a day on clear dry pavement with your touring load...it won't be near as easy.

By the time you hit Missouri you'll have enough time in the saddle to do the Katy in 2 days. Depending on the wind and trail conditions it will range between "Hey...that wasn't too bad" and "Jesus....I'm glad that's over".

If you coming off the Kansas flatlands at Girard, getting up to Clinton, MO for the start and then coming back down from St. Charles or Machens at the end to cross the Chester, IL bridge will take you some extra time. 3 days would be better.

Thanks for all the info! I know many factors are to be considered for a 2-day completion. I've done 70+ mile days off road touring, but that included climbing mountain passes. I know there is a lot to see but I'll be pressed for time and was hoping to make up some time on the trail. We see what happens. :-) Thanks again all! PedalOn!
