Im planning on riding the entire trail in late June. I currently have a road bike. I know the trail is crushed limestone. Will my bike be okay or should I rent a bike with bigger tires or put durable tires on my bike?

I plan on riding the trail in 2-3 days starting in St. Louis. Is there a shuttle that could bring me back to the St. Louis area.

Yes you should have durable tires. We ride 700 28's on our tandem and wouldn't really want any that were narrower than that. The hybrids have 35's on them and are okay and don't need to be wider than that. Aggressive tread is not necessary. Slicks or inverted tread works fine with less rolling resistance. The Loco House B&B in St. Charles used to shuttle with a nights stay.....contact them for specifics.

I am not sure about the shuttle. I have always taken the train back. However depending on your road tire you might be ok. My Fiance has been on multiple katy trips and she has never had a problem with the Continental Gatorskins.

Flat protection is a must!!!

I can't answer the shuttle question.

I ride tires that range between 28-32 in width.

Have a great ride.

If you are a good road bike guy use it but as others said flat protection is required especially if you are doing it in 2-3 days. Shuttle service if you click on Defiance, Jeff City, Rocheport bike shops may take you back.

But if you're a bad road bike guy, (not on Santa's list), you probably shouldn't use the bike you have. Don't count on a new one from Santa this year. You know why.

Anon you must be one of Santa's helpers? Because your humor is as dry as the KT in the summer. Believe it or not there are cyclists that ride on roads and not just safe flat rail trails.
