I am new to the website and the Katy Trail. I have been looking to do a trip maybe next May. I would like to start in St. Charles and maybe bike to Jefferson City. What research I have been doing looks like pretty much all B&B along the way to stay except in Jefferson City. I will be bringing one of my buddies and do think the B&B frown on that kind of thing or does someone have a better suggestion on where to stay. I kinda thought about 40 miles of biking in a day but I am flexible in the mileage. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Sdam

You could bring along a tent and camp. Many of the B&Bs have rooms with two beds.

most of the B&B's have multiple rooms or some rent the entire house for a flat fee

Go from St Chas to Augusta Klondike Park and rent a cabin on day one. Only 26 some miles. Go to the Brewery and drink a few. Go to Hermann day two and rent a hotel motel B & B whatever you want. Go to the brewery and drink a few. Go to Jeff City day three and and rent a hotel motel. Drink, repeat. It's very simple.

First off, you didn't say that you planned on doing a round trip....so first off I suggest that you take the train to points west and then ride the trail west to east...downhill...like the river going downstream...second, check out some of the places that advertise here, or are discussed here...look into places that cater to cyclists...preferably ARE cyclists. Give Rendleman in Bluffton a call and book early with him so you can stay when you want. He and others cater specifically to cyclists...he like others are setup with say 2 beds in the room, or some places have a bunk type setup. Enjoy!

My buddy and I ride the KATY often including an (almost annual) trip west to east. I live in the Kansas City area. My wife hauls us to Clinton. Day 1 we ride to Boonville. Several hotel/B&B options. Day 2 we ride to Rhineland and stay with Amanda at the Dollhouse B&B. Day 3 we ride to St. Charles. Again - several hotel and B&B options. Day 4 we ride back to Hermann in the morning. Catch Amtrak back to Kansas City in the afternoon. My wife picks us up at Union Station about 10PM and out adventure is complete. Just one option. There are a million more. Enjoy!

On my first trip on the Katy several years ago, I also was apprehensive about the B&B's (you know, meant for the women with potpourri scattered everywhere!). But I found that these places know that their guests are at least 50% male and are athletic. In several places, the accommodations are even Spartan and my wife would be the one who is uncomfortable. And I have found no place where I was forced into a queen bed with my male friend. Best bet is to call the places and explain the situation. They have heard it all, I assure you.
