Thinking about planning a trip next year and wondering how many days most people take to ride from one end to the other and if there are enough free camping places or if most of them are pay sites? My guide book has not arrived yet. Thanks in advance.

Only you know how far you like to ride in a day, but I think most that ride the length of the trail do it in about 5 days. If you are camping all the way, I would think that you will have to use some of the commercial campgrounds along the way. They are only priced at $6-$10. You can use the Trip planner link above to see where all the camping options are.

Jeff since it looks like you are coming from quite a distance and therefore this might be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, I would suggest taking in all the trail has to offer. That would mean a slower ride and a "weather" day built in. If you plan for 6 and do it in 5, that's great. Personally, I find the difference between "just riding" and "enjoying" to be 4 and 5 days, respectively. But everyone is different.
