yesterday on the trail east of mckitrick, noted sign that 3 brideges will be closed near the 94 mile marker. i beleive for one of the bridges it stated thee was not a detour.
closure will be from October 22 through December 17, 2014.
i rode through this section and the bridges all looked to be in good shape, so not sure why these are being re-built.

Most likely a structural engineer decided that the bridges need replacement, they don't go on looks.

The closures have been publicized by DNR and on this site for several months. The structural integrity of a bridge must meet a factor that is much higher than the highest probable load. Remember that the DNR has heavy equipment that must go over these bridges to do trail maintenance. And like MidSouth said, you cannot go on looks. Most bridges are tested with sonar and x-rays to determine if there is hidden damage. I trust these needed replacement because DNR does not do things on a whim, especially at a time when the trail gets heavy use.
