Hi gang! I'm working to put together a ride for next year to coincide with the MR340 river race start. I was wondering if anyone had any routes the could share for getting to Kansas City from the Katy trail. Not sure what the best jump off place from the Katy would be, so we are totally open to suggested routes! Feel free to email me with details as well. Thanks in advance for sharing!

Amtrak has a pretty good route from Sedalia to KC.

Probably best to start in Boonville if you are wanting to follow the river east.

Thanks for the replies! I should clarify though. We are intending to ride the entire distance to KC, then paddle the MR340 back to St. Charles. thanks again!

Here are the comments from Paul Toigo of Kansas City earlier this year. "I rode from Kansas City to the Pedaler's Jamboree and back this year. From Lone Jack to Sedalia, I rode on US-50. Eastbound, 95% of the way, the shoulder was wide and rumble strips provided comfort that the cages stayed to the left of the white line. Westbound, it was more than 99%. The worst of the ride was MO-150 East of Greenwood. There were several trucks passing us on this twisty, hilly, 2-lane, no shoulder stretch of road. I recommend the use of a mirror for this type of riding. My current favorite is the Take A Look Cycling Eyeglass Mirror.

Good info, thanks!
Any more out there!? It would be great to be able to stay off the highway as much as possible. Has anyone else ridden from Sedelia-KC? Thanks for the replies so far! :)

Since my Pedaler's Jamboree trip, I escorted a couple of warmshowers guests to US-50 via an alternate route. Using 3rd St -> Blue Parkway -> Todd George Rd was far more pleasant than using MO-150. FWIW, these guys also got on the KATY trail in Sedalia.
