I am interested in running the whole Katy Trail, about 35-40 miles per day. Has anyone ran this before? I would be lodging every night and probably eating in restaurants most of the time. I will also have a car following along as close to the trail as possible. Any suggestions?? I am doing this to support the Brain Injury Association of KC. I was going to run from KC to St Louis by Route 50 but someone suggested running the Katy Trail.
Thanks for any help.
Dustin

Dustin, I plan on doing the full trail by bike with a few friends in one day this coming summer in late June. I am riding for a cause also. As far as running there may have been a few runners but Ray (webmaster) has a posting in the trip planner section of this forum at the bottom under one day riders and hikers but it shows just two hikers blogs. Having a car follow you should not be a problem since there are roads that parallel most of the trail. Is your support group getting donations on the number of miles per day you run? Increasing the miles per day completed may get more donations possibly. Also I would also post your running event in the events section on this forum 4-5 months prior to draw the attention to your cause. Good luck.

Dustin, Congrats! Have you done your run yet? I'm planning to thru hike beginning the end of this month; How can we support your cause?
Also, how do I get to the posts/blogs of the hikers? Thanks! ~a

You might jump to page 147, about 2/3 down, and read the 7/27/2009 post by Matt & David about running across MO via the Katy. Only one of them made it the whole way. Good luck.

I have compiled a list of full-distance runners, through hikers, and one-day trail bikers, including a link to the post that Anon refers to above.

35-40 miles a day? You are the man. I'm just now getting into running (primarily as cross training for my cycling) and can run/walk a few miles at a stretch before pooping out :)
