Has anyone stayed at the Hermann Motel recently? Their website shows nice renovation but comments from years past indicate problems. What's the story? I'm looking for a non-b&b where several guys can bunk. Thanks!

Stayed there last fall. It is funky-older but clean. We were looking for a bed, a shower, a safe spot, and it meet our needs. I'm sure folks will complain about the age or lack of amenities, but I thought we paid a fair price for the 3 things I was looking for. Dinner at the Mexican restaurant down the street was very good and the early morning breakfast at a local dinner got us off to a good start. Happy riding!

I stayed there a few years ago and as CO riders said it is pretty spartan but good and clean. If you are just passing through, it is all I needed. They have a continental breakfast, Owners are nice and friendly. Like a Motel 6 or Super 8.

I've not been there myself but know of others who have. For couples I'd say look elsewhere. For guys needing a place to sleep no problem.

Joey's Birdhouse in McKittrick has two rooms one with twin beds and a Queen sized air mattress is available. Self serve breakfast, well stocked fridge, right on the trail.

We stayed there about a year ago. It was fine. They had a mixup and gave us a smoky room at first but they quickly rectified it and got us a nice room. Continental breakfast was decent for the price, which is much less than the bed-and-breakfasts. Ditto on that good Mexican restaurant next door. Only whine .. riding up the hill to the motel after a long day on the trail! Haugen House is also a good value.

Clean and quiet- definitely a bit threadbare. The renovation couldn't have been much more than a coat of paint on our room. But the front desk was helpful, they had HBO, the bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was edible. The real winner is the town itself-- don't miss Hermann!!
